Hmmmm... I've learned from prior embarassing posts not to 'assume' that something is NOT prototypical... or prototypical. I have many Rio Grande books and have never seen a scheme like this for ANY hopper or gondola owned by Rio Grande. I can only assume this is a mistake... but... let me just suppose its not since there's a prototype for almost anythimg it seems...:tb-confused:
I am sure that I have no idea if it is prototypical. I can't imagine even a marketing department coming up with a scheme like that. It must be a paint shop error; I certainly would believe that. I'll copy this thread to the DRGW forum. You can keep an eye out for some possible answers there.
Well, comedy aside calzephyr, I'm assuming its a humourous post {?}, did you try notifying Walthers? It looks like a Photoshop layering error to me- careful placement of lettering (as per prototype) means breaking up the 'font spacing' that occurs automatically in computer generated imaging. cheers, dave:tb-cute:
I have never seen anything like that in any of my books.. I would venture a guess that this is a artist typo...
I remember guys talking about a odd lettered set of coal hoppers, plying the rails in service between the coal mines of Colorado and the Kaiser Fontana Steel Plant, CA.. It's possible this is a reproduction of the odd car set. The story went something like this: The cars had been shopped and received a new paint job along with lettering. Before the lettering could be completed they were jerked out of the shops and placed back into service. It's possible this is one of those cars. It was rumored that the coal hoppers eventually got the proper lettering. Now, I want to know how it is you posted something that stretches half way to China? AND, did you remove the lettering "Rio Gran e" via photoshop just for the fun of it? Oh, and there's no way that I can prove that the above story, is true. I never did see the oddity these guys were talking about. Have fun!
