I have in my possession a very old Rivarossi 2-8-8-2 Mallet w/tender (PRR) in HO Scale. I'm trying to figure out the value of this locomotive so I can put it up for sale. I've concentrated on going N-scale instead of HO. Now, I've had both the motors replaced approx 2 years ago, so now it runs like new. It's missing one of the ladders/platform on the front truck and a coupler on the tender. And needs a little TLC (cleaning up due to dust). Any ideas what this would go for? I also have the complete PRR passenger car set that goes with this loco as well.
I've seen this engine on ebay go for anywhere from 250 to over 500. And I noticed that the asking price is usually much less, but after 20 or so bids, they sell for that. The passenger cars may go for more if sold individually. Just my opinion on the last. You could list them them in the Train Store on here too. Good luck Jim
I bought the very same engine in an auction on line about 2 years ago..I forget what I finally paid...But ,as it was not in the best of shape (like pilot, steps and front piston parts all falling off ) and had pizza cutter flanges like yours, hand rails with green molding growing on them, I contacted the seller and got quite adamant about it all NOT being in the condition promissed. I don't even remeber how, but I either got my $ back or never had to pay it...He also said to just keep it, he didnt want it back..I still have it in a drawer growing more mold...It certainly will never run on my code 83 and 70 rail which now is digtal to boot..I'm surprised to read how much they're worth..If I'd seen it in person I'd never offered more than $50 for this archaic item..Shell is very nice as is tender's..But otherwise, fuggeddaboudit !!!
