    Chuck,
I bet those new Riv Challengers are strong as an ox! I got an older one that was sold under the AHM name and its a good puller! I can couple right around 30 cars to it, and it will haul like theirs nothing on it! Reasons for not adding more is the fact the older motors were and still is known to get hot (mine so far has done well though) it hasn't yet got hot on me. But the fact of 30 cars is pushing it being i'm not completely Kadee equipt yet I still have the old XF2 couplers and they don't track to well unasisted and all.. If I can keep them on the track (the cars) I know it pull at least 50 cars unasisited.

I can just see the new drive! Being the old on was said to be weak and not pull the greatest! My factory new EL-5 with the newer drive with a flywheel and all out runs my Challenger and out pulls it by a long shot. To have a Challenger with the new and ungraded Allegheny drive and all I bet those 2 are as strong as an ox! :D

    John,
In talking with Walthers yesterday, I was told that there are two delivery batches, December(like the ad
said) and because of greater demand a second batch a
few months(?) later. As you may recall, my bad luck
with steam(5 Riv) and now two mantuas July 01 makes me very skittish about jumping back in. I do like
lifetime warranties, Lifelike's 2-8-8-2 Heritage where as Riv has one year. What's you thoughts?
    Chuck.

    Chuck,
What Mantua steamers do you have? I might have motors or what not that will fit them! Right before Mantua went out of buessiness I called in an order for parts and so on. I got plenty so... Let me know whats wrong with your mantua's. One thing forsure on the Mantua's. I know its not the wheels giving you trouble like your Riv Y6b did. Drop me an e-mail or 2 on your troubles. I'll let you know what I might and or can do to rebuild them!

Don't count too much on the P2K warranty on the 2-8-8-2. I sent mine in due to a binding problem that I discussed in another thread. All it should have taken was a replacement of the front drivers and gears----but they couldn't do it!!!!! They also won't replace the thing if you have non-repairable problems since they don't keep any in reserve for such contingencies. I don't know if I will ever be happy with that purchase and probably wouldn't suggest putting much stock in that warranty.

Having said that----I would heartily say that their warranty response for their diesels is excellent and can be counted on.

I recall going back approx 3 mos, another dis-satisfied 2-8-8-2 owner with warranty problems
    Perhaps you?
Is the diesel langauge warranty the same as the 2-8-8-2??. Is it a breach of promise? I have had 7
different steam engines with problems. Perhaps I should quit while I'm ahead. Appreciate your response.

I recall another modeler with a 2-8-8-2 warranty problem back approx 3 months ago, perhaps you?
Is the diesel warranty langauge the same as the 2-8-8-2?If so, sounds like breach of promise. I have had 7 diffferent steam loco fail and I don't need any more. Perhaps I should quit while I'm ahead or further persue the upgraded rivarossi
    locos. Appreciate your feed back.

I apologize for the dup. I'm dealing with a delayed server that takes up to 5 minutes to connect each time I click, so at times I don't know if the message goes, stalls or rejects.

bnsf 4353. Found your 5/8 thread about the driver bar/valve bar scrapping together, but I missed out on your subsequent attempts for resolution. Understand from a ebay seller, the 2-8-8-2 warranty infor enclosed with the packing is !FOR WARRANTY INFOR CALL TOLL FREE.
If that's true, It's a big change from their diesel 2000 series specific terms that came in the box. Am I a pain the the A--?

I can't say it word for word about the 2-8-8-2 Proto 2000 Warrenty, but I have heard that there is trouble with the replacing/repairing these as they are not made here inthe US States, and something about there is no repair person at there Co. to fix them.
I have sent ina diesel a short while back, got a turn around a about a week and a half ro so with the new one.
All youhave to do is pick up the Phone and call these people and BE NICE when your talking to them,
I have a part on the way for another problem I incountered over adding a MRC DCC Decoder to a unit that burned a PC Board after it was Pluged in and the head light turned on.
I have no trouble with Life Like and they are really nice to me, because I give them a little Praise when I talk the them.
There even going to find out for me how the decoder is to be pluged inthe correct way, maybe I will ask them about the 2-8-8-2s when I cal them again today and see what the real story is on these Proto steamers.
Just like anything else in the world you buy,Sometime the part are avalable and sometime there not, how many ties you went to a part store and they were out of your part?

You are correct that currently there is no repair person at LL. But, when I sent mine in when they did have someone it didn't make any difference.

They are nice people, but if you have a problem with the steamers you just might be out of luck. I have also been told that the 3rd run has been delayed until the first of the year. Can any one confirm this? I have been promised that they are trying to get me a replacement steamer, but we shall see if one ever shows up. Just a tough situation with the steamers right now.

The third run is in right now with the new tenders. I got my Pennsy #373 last Sunday. The fish belly tender looks really good and Life-Like did an excellent job of capturing the dark green aka DGLE of the Pennsy engines.
Now when are the Alleghenies going to be in?

Well---Talked to LL this week and was told that they are going to send me a 2-8-8-2 undec that works to make up for the one that didn't. I am thrilled to death about this news. I should have it by friday next week. I didn't think they were gonna be able to do it. I must give them all the credit in the world on this. I will purchase again from them in the future because they really seem to care about the satisfaction of their customers. I always believe in giving praise when due especially since I posted negative comments about this process before. Just want to be fair.

I find it inconceivable that Any Manufacturer would
replace a engine with a $MSP of 375.00. I wish that a menu of all diesel/steam warranties could be posted. There must be 15 + manufacturers out there
For instance, Kato 60 days, Atlas 90 days etc. We all share in your joy. [IMG]
