A few years ago, I purchased this group of O Scale passenger equipment at a train show, and ever since then I have been trying to figure out who produced these cars. Does anyone know who might have or can recognize similar cars that could give clues as to who produced them? (Sorry about the blurriness in the last image).
Hard to say from the photos. Good shots of the car ends can help. Underbody. Type of sides....cast aluminium, pot metal, tin or brass, cardstock? Top photo, wood roof, warped (Walthers used to make a kit for that, bolt them down from the bottom). Shot of insides if roofs come off. Top photo, I see dimples along the bottom edge...looks like the chair rail is quite thick. Could be cast aluminium sides...Alexander (I have one). So, more photos, and type of material on sides. Dave
The full baggage....has a very deep centre sill.....reminiscent of ScaleCraft. If it's SC, it should have a cast pot metal body.
I knew I was forgetting something crucial. The coach has a wood roof, thin metal sides, wood underbody and frame, with cast metal ends and wood seats in the interior. The baggage has a solid metal body, wood roof. The parlor is of similar construction to that of the coach but with wood ends and what appears to be cardstock sides. The RPO is one piece rolled aluminum body with wood ends and frame. Parlor Baggage Coach RPO
If the baggage is cast, thin wall, it's ScaleCraft. The streamline RPO....if I was to guess, homemade. Zero sidebody detail, rough cut wood ends. I've got some of those trucks, cast bronze...they seemingly were made by about everybody in varying types of metal. Tin or brass sides, nailed to wood floors, cast ends, sounds like Walthers, maybe All-Nation. Cardstock sides can be several....even early Walthers. I have a few, some embossed rivets, some rivet strips, some absolutely home made. Walthers used to sell interior kits....wood, sometimes cast white metal. You get terlets, sinks, tables, chairs.....stoves were interesting in diners...usually cardstock you bent, glued in, and painted to look like stainless. Let me link this discussion to another forum. More answers there. Dave
From another forum: Opinion: 1- Early Walthers 2- Kasiner witn All Nation trucks 3 - Dunno - possibly Scale Craft 4- Dunno - possible Pomona Valley or scratch. That's from your first photos, 1-4. I don't know. I've got some Kasiner cars....can't recall seeing one absolutely smooth like that. Dave
Wait until you run across SC passenger cars. Cast pot metal, opening vestibule doors, functional traps. I have about six, maybe 7 of them.
