    Welcome to TrainBoard.com's "Most Interesting Railfanning Location In My Area" Contest!

    Here are the details:

    Anyone can enter the contest. All you need is a digital camera or a camera and scanner. If you don't have a scanner you can send your picture along with an S.A.S.E. to us and we will scan it for you and mail it back - although, we can't be responsible for a photo that is lost or destroyed in the mail. E-mail us if you need this service.

    As always, we will help you post your pictures if the process is too complicated for you. Pictures are posted with HTML or UBB Code. We realize that not everyone knows how to upload pictures or has space to store pictures on a web server. We can store the pictures on our server if you e-mail them to us and we will e-mail you the code to make the picture appear. You just copy it and paste it into your post where you want the picture to appear.

    The railfan location you submit should be within 25 miles of your present home. The reason for this rule is to encourage people to find and share locations in their area. If you have pictures of somewhere farther away from you, or an area where you visited once and got a great picture or two, hold those pictures. You can use them in an upcoming contest that we have in the hopper!

    Your picture(s) should show a good location in your area for railfanning. If you have more than one location you may enter more than once - but please, post each separate location as a new topic. Although, you may submit more than one picture of the same location in the same post (from different angles, etc.) IMPORTANT: In the interest of fairness, if you are a railroad employee or you are allowed on railroad property, please take your picture(s) from OFF railroad property. Most members are not allowed on railroad property, so in order to be fair all pictures should be taken from outside railroad property. TrainBoard.com encourages safety first and reminds you to never trespass on railroad property!

    When posting your picture(s), please make sure and tell us the location and describe as much detail about the location as possible. The contest isn't as much about winning as it is about sharing interesting locations with others. Don't shy away from posting an entry because you think someone else has a better location or picture(s) than you. We want to see your picture(s) too! Your favorite place in your town of county would make a good entry even if it isn't "horseshoe curve."

    It is not important that there is any particular motive power or a train in your photo(s). If you can catch this type of activity that is great but it is not part of the criteria for judging the submissions. We are interested in the location not the activity at the moment of the shot, or the size or quality of the photo(s). Big, high-quality pictures are nice but not everyone is a professional photographer and if the images are too large, others may not wait for them to load when viewing your entry.

    Our "winner" will be chosen by our Moderators based on what location they would most like to watch trains. Remember, a good railfanning site does not have to be a location where a lot of trains pass. It can just be a neat bridge, tunnel, switch-yard, or any place you think is a good place to watch a train - even if only one train passes each week. The contest isn't about winning - it's about showing others great locations that they may not ever be able to visit in person. So, get those pictures taken and posted! Our contest runs through June 30, 2000.

    Moderators may enter but should disqualify their own posts - or - refrain from voting for a winner.

    Remember to post each entry as a NEW TOPIC and NOT a reply to someone else's entry. Also, be sure to check back after you post an entry. Others will probably have questions for you. You can also use the e-mail notification tool to keep track of when others post a reply to your entry.

    If you have questions or comments, please post a reply or e-mail support@trainboard.com

    No 'ON' property photography? Dang! [IMG]

    Gary.

    ps. I am pro-railroader (22 years) and do not condone irresponsible trespassing for the purposes of photography, or any other purpose, on railway/railroad property. If you are being responsible and safe, I have no problem (within reason).

    Gary;

    We are just trying to keep the playing field level. If you have access to railroad property and want to post the pics, go ahead. Just disqualify that post from the actual contest - as I will be doing with the entry that I will be posting myself.

    Since most people are not allowed on railroad property and the railroad police in the U.S. play hardball sometimes and we want people to stay safe and out of jail, we implemented that little rule [IMG]

    Well let's see. Before I even start, I have two strikes against me [IMG]. 1, moderator. 2, distance. It is only fair. I railfan Helper, UT, the last Grande stand of the Rio Grande Tunnel Motors. If anyone who has been there, they know it's GREAT [IMG]. It should be a real good contest and I hope we get a lot of entries.

    Jim;

    Feel free to post anything you like. We only implemented the rule to get people to post something near them and to maybe go out and find a new spot that isn't their favorite spot. My favorite spot is farther than 25 miles away from me too!

    You can either hold those for another contest or post them and disqualify your post from the competition. It isn't about winning anyway! [IMG]

    Have fun with this one.

    Charlie
