Ran the NW2 and Four 2 bay covered hoppers for maybe 45 minutes tonight. Not too much going on lately. foot is acting up now, so I'm dealing with some intense pain! Gonna try running something tomorrow, again. Maybe the K27 and a short train. Want to check for possible derailments again. Or at some point, I need to pull up some train again, and get some rework done. Again! Maybe look into what I may need to do for installing a couple of GMM girder bridges. Or at least get measurements first Betting that once school lets out for the summer, this Thursday here, that I could have a few more young? visitors if/when I may be outside running. May even thing about offering an open house, to Railroad Club members only later over the summer. No photos/Video at this point. Yet. I need to clear a few media cards so I have free space for shooting pics/video! Around 80* - 85* for the next couple of days for sure. Perfect weather for operations of sorts!! Hopefully more photos and/or video to follow.
Hmmm. You could put a few youngsters to work on a track gang. Picks and shovels. Really make some progress.
Or a real mess!! Then again, I'd probably never get anything done that way! Kids would probably want to play instead of work!
Some run time in. Another video try was also made. Last a whopping 50 seconds! After checking WHY I can't shoot, I found that the HD section of the 8GB card was full!! Where I thought I had removed everything!! Photos, yes, videos, no. So, I'm gonna remove the videos next and try again tomorrow. After getting a load of planters mix dirt for Mom. Still supposed to be in, or near the mid 80's. So, as long as the GP40's do NOT overheat in the sun, and thermal shut down, I should be good to go. I hope!
Decided to try another test, with the SD70MAC today! Ran pretty good in both directions. Put a caboose behind it and it even stay on the entire time, even through the S curve. So, I may try it again tomorrow, hopefully, with photos this time! Had to check it anyway, as I needed to see what parts I need! Gotta replace headlights, as I burned them out right after I installed Airwire/Sound cards! Should be decent for another day or so. Took time, since it was nice, to do some minor track work again! Resulted in tracks being moved slightly farther apart. Should prevent narrow gauge stuff from hitting!! May try the K tomorrow also. But, we shall see.
Also spent half the afternoon, picking up 1300 pounds of planters mix dirt for Mom. Then, after dinner, it was already close to 7PM when I started playing! And I hadn't thought of getting my camera! Didn't feel like it. Just published: My first video try of the railroad. Longer than I expected! Definitely faster on camera!! RPM sounds and speed look better when see in person!
Well, a bit of a late start to the day didn't help! But, neither did the fact that we were supposed to get rain, possibly heavy and maybe hail as well. At least Denver got that! Just got some decent rain here, and I'm hurting more than I want, because of weather more than likely! So, maybe tomorrow, before weather strikes, if in fact, it does! But then, I've taken spring/summer/fall photos, and winter photos. Why not IN the rain as well?? Well, today, with as nasty as it looked, I wasn't gonna chance it! Again, maybe tomorrow! Weather permitting! :teeth:
I think it was the trailing truck of the flatcar, being skewed slightly from being pushed, and the flange picking that specific rail joint. Body mount couplers on locomotive and truck mounted couplers on cars. That combo, if shoving cars, might not be a good match!
If I could find the right KD couple for body mounting to Aristo and USAT cars, I'd go that route. But, I don't run more than 10 cars anyway, so I don't have too many derail trouble. Unless I'm shoving a train with either a flatcar or a 2 bay covered hopper. Extra weight should help though. Just can't run empty flats at head of train, unless only 3-5 cars. Too much weight otherwise.
Not yet! I make sure I move it, when I decide to play! But, when it's in use, I don't run things. So it works out fine.
How far does the sound of your horn and bell carry? I wonder if neighbors can hear those when sounded?
Horn can be heard from at least a couple houses down the street. Bell and engine rumble I don't know. Sound might carry a bit farther in the evenings, when it quiets down some, no traffic and such. During the day, it ould be somewhat hidden with daily sounds. However, I try not to go much later than about 8PM running. Or at least using horn/bell.
So it can be heard. My thought was wondering if when hearing it, any neighbors might be tempted to come over and "play". Ha ha.
Kids may stop by and watch, as will anyone walking by. They will either see, and/or hear trains running and stop. In the 5 years or so the train has been out front, I haven't had problems with anything yet. Everyone in the area knows it's there I think! And everyone that sees it, really likes how it's turned out, so far!
Request for Hearing submitted Wednesday. My G Scale run time updates my become farther apart. Now, I have to be very careful what I do, as chances are going to be VERY good, that I'm gonna be spied on!! Or stalked, as I tend to look at it! May still be able to do some work in the Backyard though, out of sight maybe. Or at least set up another loop in back, so I'll at least be able to run, if I choose to. I just gotta be extra careful! But, might not be willing to do too much though, as it's gonna be near 90* the next few days with possible rain in the afternoon.
