February 1, 1968 , the New York Central ceased to exist as a corporate entity. The ill fated merger with Pennsylvania didn't last much longer. The demise of two former giants of industry. :tb-sad:

    Fitz,

Don't forget the coming tragedy of some of those horrible logos, like the Penn Central "mating worms" logo. That one needed to be done.

    I hate seeing railroads collapse.

Possibly one of the most, if not THE most, ill advised corporate mergers in history.
It's eventual resurrection as "CONRAIL" most likely would not have been as successful
as it was had it not been for the "Staggers Act".

Sad, indeed. That merger assured there would be complete disaster.
