" Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful diesel locomotives of all time, and popular enough to be considered by many an "honorary steam locomotive," the American Locomotive Company (ALCo) PA-1 of 1946 had all but vanished from US rails decades ago, with the last four American units sold in 1978 to Mexico. 22 years later, two of them were repatriated. One of these is Delaware & Hudson #18, currently being restored as Nickel Plate Road #190."
