I have located several maps that show ATSF had a branch which was isolated from the Mains in NM. This branch came off the old C&S/FW&D at Mt Dora and went in a mostly NW direction. Question. Was it truly an ATSF line? What did it serve? When built/removed? Any other info would be appreciated.
Wasn't there a Espee branch off the Golden State Route that went to some coal mines in northwest New Mexico? I think Santa Fe kept part of this line active after Espee pulled out. Maybe this is what you're seeing.
mikado You're thinking of the old SP line in NE NM that became part of the Santa Fe's York Canyon branch.
Google is your friend. You are probably looking at the Colmor Cutoff. Abandoned Rails: Mount Dora to Farley another link Re: A Colorado Southern question - Trains.com Forums Funny, I drove through that area almost exactly 10 years ago. It's pretty flat.
I had previously read about the Colmor cutoff but did not realize that it included C&S Trackage rights and had been completed that far. Thanks for the links!
