I'm at the modeso amtrak station waiting for the northbound 711. The amtrak station is in BNSF track, ands a while ago I saw a consist go by where the power was 1 bnsf and 2 norfolk southen locos.

I was noy in a position to get any pictures, and I don't know how to identify types. I just know NS doesnt run near me.

Actually it's not unusual. You can see power from other Class 1 companies running through from east coast to west and back again. Folks back east see UP power out there. We out west can see CSX, NS, occasionally KCS out here.

Yep. It's basically a trade. As far as the roads are concerned, an engine is an engine is an engine. So they trade "horsepower hours" and instead of wasting the fuel to take off one road's engine for another on through trains, and then terminate that engine on the other side of the country, it might as well get used.

It can make life interesting, to say nothing of colorful. I know that here by the Rockies, I've seen KCS, NS and TFM, probably more that I just don't remember right now. Makes for some nice picture opportunities!
