My layout uses Woodland scenic Risers with Unitrack. I have attached most all of the Unitrack to the risers. It works well, but... I didn't cover the risers with plaster cloth or anything similar first. I'm not going to pull up working track. How best to fill in the gaps between my two mainlines on the Risers ? The sides I'm not too worried about, just the middle, but I'm open to all suggestions. I tried filling the gaps with LightWeight Spackling but the gaps are too large. Should I line between the Rails with Masking tape or similar, then spackle ? Thanks, Dave

Cut small pieces of foam to fit the spaces between the risers. You then can use a hot glue gun to keep the added foam in place.

If you cut the foam slighty wider than the spaces in the risers, you might not need the glue gun. You then can use plaster cloth between the mainlines.

    Stay cool and run steam.....

Thry using an electric frying pan. put the hot melt in and bring up the heat as needed. Cut a number of 1" thick wedges of foam, quickly dip one side then the other in the pan and stuff into the slot at the top flush with the surface. Grip the wedges with forceps from the back (what will be the outside surface) so it is looking like one of those foam paint brushes. You will get the hang of it with practice.

The gap left below will be covered with other scenery.

If it is on a "fill" heading up to a mountain, use another 1" thich foam and an electric bread or carving knife to slice a tapered "board" long enough to suit, and wrap around the Woodland riser. Use an old paint brush to dab hot melt onto the riser as you wrap, and hold with tooth picks as you go.

Hot melt glue can melt the foam if too hot though, but the pan provides a goodly quantity of glue where needed. The glue gun only gives a small string of glue.

This hot pan method is used for store window displays.

You could try that spray foam in a can. I believe there is a low expanding version.

    John-

Be VERY careful of that stuff. I have found it absolutely impossible to control and I don't think it is suitable for detail work.

If I envision this right you hae a gap between the risers supporting parralle track.

Could you use the foam packing "popcorn"? Then maybe cover the top of that possibly with plaster cloth?
