Here's a trip down memory lane.... this is a real blast from the past around here for a couple of reasons: #1) the line these units are on used to actually head north from Raleigh to Petersburg, Va and on to the RF&P; #2) SD45's are long gone in these parts (except for an occasional SD45 body SD40-2 lease rebuild unit): Harold
Way cool! I heven't seen SCL diesels since I lived on the Frisco Cherokee Subdivision in Oklahoma, and SCL diesels would roll thru Afton every now & then on runthrough freights.
NICE shots Harold! I seen a ex seaboard unit in Meyersdale at Sand Patch a few years ago without the yellow stripes, but had the yellow numbers on the cab (CSX renumbering) All black tho.. alot thought it was an old Clinchfield unit. an SD-40, or a SD-40-2 I wasn't close enough to tell which of the 2 it was!
Nope Harold thats an SD-45! It didn't have the slanted radiator grille's! To bad I don't have a scanner I'd scan the picture I got of it and post for you to see!
Yep, I knew it was an SD45, but I was just using it to illustrate the paint scheme... here's a photo from the CSX Photo archives (SD40): Harold
As far as I know, the Clinchfield did not receive any SD40-2's in their paint scheme(s). I believe they had a few SD40-2's that were delivered in the Family Lines Paint scheme. Harold
Harold, That SD-40 or Sd-40-2 you posted a picture of in all black with the SBD on the cab is about what the one I seen looked like, just didn't have no stripes nor railroad name on it. I can't remember the number of the unit and on the picture I got of it, I can't see the number in it their either. But I know it was an EX Seaboard unit. Which I had argued the fact that it was a Seaboard unit to his jesture of it being an EX Clinchfield unit. I didn't think Clinchfield had black units....
Harold, I'm getting the itch to build a couple of SCL diesels for my Frisco layout (they showed up often on trains BTX and QLA, as well as eastbounder CTB). WHat were the numbers of the SCL SD45s back in the late 1970s, before Family Lines and Seaboard System?
Bob, Yes you need some SCL SD45's I know the SCL SD45's started with # 2000, but I'll have to look up the ending #. Harold
