Today, 50 years ago in Charleston Heights (now North Charleston), SC, a young couple was married in the Cherokee Place Methodist Church.

She was 18 and he was 20. A teenager and a USAF A/2c airman.

That marriage is now 50 years young and still coupled together.

On the SCRS, figures representing a couple stands on the rear of a heavyweight OPS car, as their train moves along the rails.

Somewhat like them, we know where we have been and we still travel into the future together.

    Larry @ SCRS.

Belated congratulations Larry. Hope that you and Mrs. Childers have another 50 together.

Not sure that you got my e-mail, but I was able (finally) to download your SCRS photos. I was especially impressed by the photo of three SR SD-24's going away with the "Green Hornet" box trailing.

    Thank you.

    Dave.
    Thank you.

There is a second "green hornet" boxcar somewhere out on the system, perhaps both will return to home base soon.

Those three SD-24's could probably pull a hundred car train lashed up together. Each has two motors and can operate independent of the others. There is no problem lashing them up as two or three units together.

I like running three and rotate the back unit up front ever so often.

LARRY - The "Green Hornets" were among my favorite SAL cars, especially the 15000's and early 16000's with that "Perfect Product Protection" slogan.

And a question, do you ever mix units? My understanding is that the SD-24's when first delivered were often the middle unit in a "sandwich" of F-units, supplementing and eventually replacing the F-M "Trainmasters" in that role. I know you have an RS-3, any F-units?

    Good morning Dave.

No F units operating on the SCRS. Thus far I have kept the SD-24's together, however it would be interesting to put a SD-24 at the rear of the Southern Crescent E-8 units, in front of the train cars.

Larry - No problem with freight power on Southern passenger trains. Have many photos of Southern's secondary passenger trains with a "bunch" of freight units coupled ahead of the passenger power. These were freight units due for periodic inspection at Pegram shops in Atlanta.

Don't have any of 6-axle power done thus, but why not? But the freight units were always on the head end to allow the E or F units to supply steam for the passenger cars.

Thank you. I see from your profile that you live in Alabama. What part of the state?

    Dave.

I do use the SD-24's sometimes to pull the ACL or SOU heavyweight passenger cars (no SAL yet). The units swap out to work the Union Station and will until the S-2 arrives.

I know I said that it would be interesting to have a SD-24 between the rear E-unit and cars of the Southern Crescent however, as for pulling the streamline passenger cars, well these are the cars for the premier trains that ride the rails as they cross over the SCRS.

The E-units rule when it comes to power for pulling the Southern Crescent, the Silver Comet and the East Coast Champion.

Wow! It is great when memories of days gone by can be recreated in
    models.

WOW...thought I replied to this but my post has gone away! Anyway, congrats. I like the tribute you did with the two folks on the back of the coach...makes me think I will do something like that too!

    JCARTER

Thank you. The couple on the Ops car have become quite a hit with the grandkids and visitors. I have often heard my youngest granddaughter refer to them as "thats granddaddy and momme momme".

    Boxcab E50.

Thank you. One mile at a time, one day at a time they keep adding on. Problem is that it seems the more MILE markers you pass, the closer together they seem to be. So August will be your next station stop.

35th MP. I think, I remember passing that marker... .

SCRS’ 50TH ANNIVERSARY ROUND ROBIN TRIP COMPLETED.

Departed: 30 June – Returned 16 July. Many states visited and some rail fan operations took place in New Hampshire.

At Buffalo, NY – spotted an Amtrak passenger between I-90 east and the lake as we were driving to Niagara Falls.

In Lincoln, NH ,the Hobo Railroad to include seeing the Flying Yankee (under warps on shoring). Also at Clarks Trading Post, their operations and the covered railroad bridge (still in use). WELL RECOMMENDED BY SCRS.

In North Conway, NH, the Conway Scenic Railroad. WELL RECOMMENDED BY SCRS.

I was at the North Conway station when the Valley train came in – pulled by steam locomotive #7470. We also just happen to be at the Crawford Notch station when the Notch train arrived there.

At Bretton Woods, NH, we also rode the White Mountain Cog Railroad al the way to the top of White Mountain. Sometimes for weather reasons, the train stops short – about half way up. Wow! What a trip. WELL RECOMMENDED BY SCRS.

In Intervale, NH, we visited the model train museum (all scales) and the hobby shop. WELL RECOMMENDED BY SCRS.

In NYC, we took the R Line subway from Fort Hamilton – Bay Ridge – 95th at 4th into Manhattan. Off at 34th street for the Empire State Building (allow three hours here – two for waiting in line – one at the top), walked up to 42nd and over to Grand Central Station. walked around to see as much as possible then took the shuttle subway to Times Square. Later the R line back to Fort Hamilton.

    A very good trip.
