    Here's a good closeup of an SD60I:

So, anybody know how many SD60I's CSX has? Does CSX distinguish them from SD60M's?

Nice ones, harold [IMG] Don't think they will look so good in the new paint scheme, though. So good thing you are getting pics right now!

    Alan,
The "fallen flag" / changing paint scheme is something that drew me into photographing trains to start with! In the "archives", I examples of the same unit wearing up to 3 different schemes. It makes it more challenging....
Now if we could only get Norfolk Southern to change theirs [IMG]

    Harold,
Nice work! I'm growing to like the new "I" cab then the old Spartan cab but I still like the Spartan cab so... But these are newer and all and one day, I'll have a newer fleet to run some CSX trains! :D But don't you deezul guys think I'm giving up my first love, STEAM! HA

On the newer diesels though, I have a complaint with an Athearn, my C44-9W I run code 83 on the club layout, and ALL my steamers run on it. Even the older ones! But when I go to run diesels I have some trouble! I run double mainlines, inside main (track 2) has 22 inch radius curves, and on the outside main (track 1) I have 24 inch radius curves. I've found that my GP's will run flawlessly! Most of my SD's run great as well. But I've found that my DD-40's which I have 3 of them will run like scared jack rabbits, and smooth. And no derailments on any of them. But When I go to run my C-44-9 it has trouble and is always derailing... It just seems to not track right... Any of you HO scalers run into this with the Athearn C-44-9W's? I think its the fact of it have floating trucks and not the pined type that rides on a pin in the mounting of the truck it don't seem to let the trucks to travel like they should or something... But at home, on my home layout it will run flawlessly on 22 inch radius track that is code 100. Anyone encounter this on the C44-9W?

Harold - CSX has the SD60Is and Ms split into two different number series:

    8722-8755 SD60I 34 Ex-Conrail
    8756-8786 SD60M 31 Ex-Conrail

This is from the the Motive Power Rosters web page, a very useful site:

    http://www.ole.net/~rcraig/CSX.HTML

The obvious visual difference between the two types of SD60s is the verticle groove that runs up the nose in front of the cab windows - this is the rubber gasket that isolates the cab from the body of the diesel to reduce noise (hence the "I" in the designation). CSX also puts the model designation under the road number on the cab.

    Have a great weekend everybody,

    Dave
