I have a pair of the P2K SD60s. They are very nicely detailed and are incredible pullers. Their gearing is slower compared to other manufacturers' locomotives but I am very pleased with them.

I have noticed a few detail problems with them but there so small they dont make a differnce. Overall I like them.

I bought one SD60 in the Oakway Leasing blue and white livery. I am very impressed with it, it's a fantastic looking model. I think the standard of detail (for a plastic model) is probably the best I have seen.

I've also added some extra detail to the model, speed recorders/cables, handbrake chain, more realisic air hoses, etc. One thing I learnt was to install the new air hoses BEFORE installing the snow plow! I have also removed the turbo exhaust and opened up the hole underneath it, so that you can actually see a hole and not blue plastic when looking through the exhaust. A few bits of wire to represent various details underneath the walkways improve things too. A new multiple unit cable for each end, with a small piece of chain to support it underneath the walkway was also added. I also replaced the included knuckle couplers with Kadees'.
I've also painted a few minor details according to prototype photos, of course on the extra details I have added, and other parts, for example the fuel cap, the inside of the exhaust stack and the coupler lift bar handles.

One thing I find annoying is that the crew is already installed, yet unpainted....so I have to pull the model apart just so I can paint the crew, a complaint I have with other p2k models I have bought.

I also like the idea of having extra details supplied, so that I can model a particular locomotive / era. The guide for drilling holes in the roof was very good too. I don't like the way the sand hoses just dangle from the bogies, the ends of the hoses need to be fixed to the bogie so that is another job to be done.

With a little bit of easy work (and a little bit to go) it has become a very fine looking model!
I would be very surprised if I don't also own one in the UP livery within a week!

I finally got one on the test track, a very smooth runner! You can tell they are a little slow thats for sure. I got em from A+ Hobbies for $55 apiece but they just closed their business or something like that... Guess i got em just in time! :D

Yep, it shore is that's the one I got. I've also noticed that the "Conrail" under the radiator air intake is to low. :(

Well I finally got mine (Soo 6026) and this is the first time I purchased a loco sight unseen. I had heard (on cpheavyhaul) that the colours were not exactly correct for The Soo Line. Well they were right - it's way too creamy  and upon futher inspection the black SOO isn't printed very well on the long hood. I trip to the paint shop is probibly in order [IMG] There are a few details that arn't right for Soo but these are minor and will easily be fixed once I get over how incredibly detailed everything else is. This is a great looking locomotive in all other respects.

As for the gearing - it won't get it's first test run til I get home tonight.

Has anyone lit the ditch lights?

I Have 2 of the P2k SD60's and I like them very much! The first one I got was the CSX 8709 and it is slow, but a smooth runner. John (7600_EM1) couldn't believe the weight on this engine! One fellow ran his (NS) at the Altoona RailFest and stated it pulled better than the one he got from Overland! The second one I have is Conrail 6842 and it has more zip than the CSX. The detail on them is very good, but I'm having some minor trouble with the front & rear pilot handrails on the Conrail. But overall, they're my favorite HO diesels. CSX 8709 :D Conrail 6842 :D

Does anyone know if the second run has the same circuit board as the first run? Because they start at a definite lower voltage than my GP30s(ph2s) In fact i threw one of the SD60 boards in one of em to compare and was amazed at the difference.

MR revied this model last fall. (maybe Oct)A bit too slow for my track since I don't have DCC, it would almost always get rear-ended when I run 2+

Hello Doug 1971, great name there hey!
I have 3 SD 60's and another I am doing in the BN Desert Storm scheme, with a Cannon cab. They are a very good model for the price, we are lucky in Australia, we seem to get them at a reasonable price considering the way our dollar is at the moment. They run in consist with each other very well, and are an excellent base to detail further if you wish.
I would like to see the train that stops them on the flat, unless you have your layout in a basketball court!
    Have a good one!

I have a Conrail 6842 which I have had for about 2 months now. This week I finally got around to putting the plow on and some other detail parts.
Pretty tricky plow & MU cable assembly.
Also only one complaint some pilot handrails came out of the stanchion, had to glue em back in w/CA.

Great puller. A little slow, but I prefer power over speed.
    :D

Glad to hear they are so good. I finally got two coming that are undec's that will become, after heavy modification, SD70MAC's.

Are you going to stretch the frame? Last night i was looking at one of mine and just imagining how it would look as a 70MAC...

Too much work for me though, i'll let P2K or Athearn do it... :D

I am not sure yet how far the conversion will go. I know I need to change some grills and then I will do the measurements and see exactly how far off it is. If it winds up being too much I might "fudge" the numbers a little.
