Thought I might post some early photos of my latest kitbash venture ! It's a BNSF SD75M (actually, an SD75i) that is starting with a heavily modified Atlas SD60M shell and has parts off other SD60 shells. These photos show added battery boxes and removed duct on fireman's side, 75M style blisters on both sides, scratchbuilt recessed brakewheel housing and doors on engineer's side, lowered engine compartment roof and the recessed area beneath radiator fans on roof. This model will receive a modified Kato 90MAC cab (coming from Craig ) and 90MAC sideframes. I could not stand waiting for these to be produced any longer! Naturally, now Atlas or Kato will announce them in the next couple of weeks Russ [ 28 November 2001: Message edited by: tehachapifan ] [ 02 December 2001: Message edited by: tehachapifan ] [ 18 December 2001: Message edited by: tehachapifan ]
Looking extremely well so far Russ! That truly is top notch work, infact it almost looks like its an HO model (not to many N scale guys fool around with the hood door arrangements, etc. I thought the cab and other stuff would have been there today, so hopefully it will get to you tomorrow. Keep us posted!
That is looking good, Russ, (and making me jealous) It is one model I have been hoping to see produced for a long time! Surely it cannot be long before they appear? I look forward to more progress reports (and pics).
Good work! How long have you been working on this project? How much has it cost you so far? Just curious, keep us updated. Bryan
Thanks for the comments, guys! Brian, costs so far are not too bad. Atlas sells shells and parts for a couple of dollars a pop. The Kato 90mAC trucks cost $15 or $20, the 90MAC cab I got from Craig for a couple of bucks and the chassis was around $40. Somewhere in the neigborhood of $70 - $75 in parts/supplies, I guess. Not calculating for labor...of course Russ BTW, Craig, parts arrived...thanks! [ 29 November 2001: Message edited by: tehachapifan ]</p>
Here is some inspiration for you. Your project shure has me thinking about doing another! This was shot before I added cast resin sideframes (made from KATO HTCR parts) and wire stantions and railings. Brian
Thanks gary! Brian, I'm pretty sure that shot of yours is what got me wanting do do this...very nice! I think I'm going to use modified stock handrails. I did some brass handrails once on a 8-40CW and they looked sooooo much better that everything else stood out as way too big. So, unless I plan to convert everything, I'll leave it be for now....I think....I don't know...we'll see
Thanks CNW! Here's the latest...modified 90MAC cab with relocated number boards, added rear grill, relocated jacking pads, battery box steps and BLMA drop grabs (thanks Craig!) Russ [ 17 December 2001: Message edited by: tehachapifan ]
Naturally, now Atlas or Kato will announce them in the next couple of weeks Russ Well seems as how I bought an BNSF and SF sd75i's in brass you can bet they'll be in plastic soon. But thats ok as there's plenty of other roads I would like to have in sd70. But I couldn't wait anylonger on sf/bnsf. One of these two will also probably be releasing gp60m/gp60b soon as I also bought these in brass. Again couldn't wait anylonger. I would bet on Atlas doing them.
Now she's been painted into red and silver! Awaiting SD75I decals from Microscale...probably be here today . Interesting side note...these decals were produced for the FIRST TIME in N scale about 3 days ago! (although they've been showing up as available for quite some time in the catolog). I think my inquiry a few weeks ago made them realize this was the case and they promptly made 'em...just in time, eh? (I have found them to be extremely customer oriented lately). I was otherwise going to have to adapt a SD75M and C44-9W set. Next pics should show a finished shell or model . Russ
As soon as the decals arrive Russ, stop everything else and get 'em applied.....no time to sleep, we wanna see the finished beauty
