Lyons Yard, Westville, IL Lyons-Paris T/A local. Larry Baggerly says: Here is my engineer!! John Franklin from Trafalger Indiana. I miss him still! Imagine doing local switching with that L-2 Lawrence Baggerly Collection.
How close together are Danville and Westville? In my NYC train order collection notes, I had placed Lyons Yard in Danville.
somewhat off-topic, but many years ago my Explorer Scout Post used to camp at the Westville Sportsman's club grounds. There was a sort of communal trash dump just off-site there and one time I noticed what appeared to be a large circular "shade" for a lamp fixture. I couldn't put my finger on why it looked so familiar but while looking at some old rail photographs I saw a photo of an old heavyweight Pullman-Standard observation car. This large circular metal "shade" looked exactly like the ceiling light fixture on the observation platform. I am wondering if someone had claimed some scrap from a demolishing project of an obsolete rail observation car and later disposed of it. This piece looked exactly like what I saw in the photographs and since Westville was sort of a railroad town, and yes it is close to Danville" it causes me to wonder. Charlie
"How close together are Danville and Westville? In my NYC train order collection notes, I had placed Lyons Yard in Danville." 8 and 1/2 miles.
Another beauty, Roger. Did Larry carry a camera with him when he was working on the railroad? He sure has a nice collection. Ken, most of the L-2 Mohawks were designed for, and performed, freight duty, and most had the footboards on the pilot rather than boiler tube or cast "cowcatchers." Later L-3 and L-4 dual purpose engines had the pilots like passenger engines.
