Here are the pics of my GP7u (thanks for uploading them Joe). The unit is still in the works as there are MANY more detail parts to add. I am currently out of #80 drill bits so there are no grab irons, no sunshadesm, liftrings, etc. I hope to add those soon and paint this little devil! :D

Note that I have made MAJOR changes to the cab. I started out with an Atlas GP7, SD40-2 cab and snoot nose. The DB blister is still there but the grill is removed. That's all for now, more later. I have homework to do but I said I would post this tomorrow (which is today) and I'm a man (young man to be exact) of his word! [IMG]

Well, the pics are there, but there is a problem actually posting them on TB (maybe Geocities is the problem). Any way, please look at the three links given and let me know what you think.

    Thanks

Craig, that looks great! I can hardly wait till you get a set of grabs, rings, and other stuff on it. The usual high-detail as always! Great job, and keep us posted!!
My 80MAC in BN tigerstripes is just about done, awaiting decals. I masked/painted the stripes, and it doesn't look all that bad, altho I wish I used the decals, which were too small, and I'd have to use about 3 pieces to make the stripes cover the nose.

    First off thanks guys! [IMG]

Sure I'd love to go to your house and build a few, say, two? Hmmm, I'll be there about 4 weeks. :D

Hey Craig. That looks fantastic. Wish my one GP7 looked like that.

    One word-
    SWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!! :D :D

Ya know, you COULD offer this as a sideline- say, build chopnose Geeps like this for us poor souls (hint, hint)

BTW, how did you trim the chassis & weight to
fit a chopped nose? I've got a bedraggled GP7 in faded-out CNW livery I need to have run thru the shops.

Thanks again guys for the responses and compliments.

I would love to be able to offer things like this to people as a service, but the amount of time involved in this project is going to be over 30 hours at least. If I made these to sell, the price that I would have to put it at to justify the time involved would be to high. Another thing (for me anyway) is that I put SO much time into some of my models that I don't want to see them go.

Any ways, the Atlas GP7 chassis is not high nose height on both ends, so milling down the end of the frame was easy and took no more then 5 minutes. I used a dremel tool and a circular sanding bit as well as another bit which I'm not sure of the name of.

The paint on the body so far was only to see what I need to fill with a little more putty, gaps in things, etc.

Here is a picture of the model which I am doing, but mine will be more modern, with ditch lights and BNSF stencils.

It's not that great  ...............
Just kidding ;) Breaking up the monotany of it all. Actually, I am quite jealous Craig. Your work just keeps defying the limits of what N-scale is supposed to be!
BTW- I love your improved website. Very nice piece of HTML/Java. Will you be offering any etched grills like those above?

Once again, great work Craig! [IMG]

You have done the cab very nicely - it captures the look of a Topeka cab.
It would have taken about 1-1.5mm of milling to clear the low nose? That's what I would have thought was needed.

Bob, have a look at the chop nose I did for the Paducah-built ex-IC units - http://www.pnc.com.au/~audiosat/models/projects/tcwgp10_1.htm
It's not a too difficult job to do and with Atlas providing inexpensive bodies as practice units, it doesn't hurt too much. I think it's only $2.25 for a GP7/9 body. [IMG]

Thanks Russ and Gary for the comments.

The next etched item on my list is to get those little tiny sill and step mounted safety lights made. They aren't much, but they can add a little spice other wise not seen to an N scale model. I do offer these are a part now, but if they were etched they could be finer. I would also like to come out with fans and grills later.

I milled down the GP7 mechanism just less then 1/8 of an inch.

Hey Gary your rebuilds are VERY impressive, and I would love to see them finished! :D :D ;)
