Rick - The Wagontop is a very old Camden and Amboy kit that was supposed to be an I-17. The kit was so rough and out of square that by the time I finished straighting out the kinks, it no longer looked the part of an I-17. I whittled and rounded, moved some windows, and added the ribbing and came up with an I-12 Wagontop.

Tim - Thank you. There are more pics in my gallery.

I made an I-17 years ago out of a Rivarossi bay window. May make a few more that way. JnJ is supposed to have their I-12 in production right now. Be interesting to see how they turn out.

All I have is a 3-bay ACF covered hopper by Accurail, a 40' PS-style boxcar by athearn, a 40' wood w/braces boxcar by Walthers, and a 2-bay covered hopper by MDC.

I have an M53 Wagon Top resin kit by F&C that is unassembled, i know it will be a while before i get aroudn to that one especially with an upcoming move.

This isn't mine but it is well worth a look at. A fellow B&O S-scaler sent me this picture for a little help on an n scale EM-1 I am working on.

Here is one more from me. I picked this up for $4 at a trainshow junk table just for a chance to work with a brass/stainless kit. It was assembled but pretty poorly. When I got home, I happened to be looking through an old Classic Trains, and found a shot of the exact car finishing out a B&O train. It turns out the car was a B&O/C&O prototype so I stripped it, fixed the roof and added the tail light housing, and repainted it appropriately. I was even lucky enough that Microscale has the correct car name on their passenger car decal set.

N scale. One of my favorite cars of all. I mixed the green/blue paint using some instructions. I don't know if it was really prototype or not. Micro Scale decals with a nice Chessie logo on a MDC undec gondola.

This is a Concor-Kato N scale boxcar. It was one of the very early ones by Concor and a lot better than the ones they made later. Funny that Kato never did make US prototype boxcars after this as this was really a very good model. This is also one of my favorites because it is different from the other boxcars available.

How close is the Atlas/Riv smoothside to this car?

I have a few of the older Atlas smoothsides and compared the two. They aren't the same car but you could probably make a passable substitute. The biggest errors are, the window arrangment, the roundness of the rear of the car, and the lack of corrugations on the side of the car. Smaller issues are the skirting and lack of the high tail light.

This corrugations and skirting could be fixed with one overlay. The windows would be too much work to be worth it. The high tail light is easy, I had to do it to the kit above also.

I have hoarded a batch of the old Atlas cars in hopes that I can find something B&O that they are close too. I haven't had any luck yet. I think they may end up being chassis' for a Cincinnatian car set that I am planning to build.

The car kit used above can be found here and there. I see them go on Ebay every once in a while for around $20-25. Just search for C&O because the car was originally made for the C&O. They only lasted a few year as C&O cars then were sold to B&O. There are two valid car names for B&O, the Wawanee above and the Napanee.

Thats what I figured, close but no ceegar. Do you happen to know the manufacturer of the brass-side kit? Where are you getting the Cincinnatan car sides? Currently I am getting a ton of the old ROWA cars since they are very close to C&O > B&O cars. I also need to get a smoothside to make a GN Big Blue Dome/Coach that the B&O bought later on...

Tom - Beautiful layout. I can't stomache weathering cars either. I spend time to build and paint them, too turn around and dirty them up just isn't right. Maybe I will get over that eventually.

Sizemore - I can't remember the company. It is not one that is current if I remember correctly.

As far as the Cincinnatian cars, I have drawings complete. I have a vinyl cutter and I was planning on cutting the sides in layers on that out of .005 styrene. The cutter won't cut all the way through but it scores the plastic well enough that I can fold and break out the cuts. I have one side put together as a test and it worked better than expected. As a back up plan, if I get a car built and I don't like it, I have been assembling the parts to do photo etching. I may try my hand at that. Chris333 has been having great success with Z scale stuff so I think I can pull it off in N.

The loco so far. It will be going on a MP Pacific chassis. Waiting on a motor and gearing to finish.

And the drawings for the car set.

Just thought I'd get out some of my B&O stuff - E6 AB set pulling the Capitol Limited. RF-16 Sharknoses pulling a freight in the background.
