Thanks for answering Kevin. But they are WAY too clean!!! I have one of the SD 70, but it seems like Athearn could work on slowing them down. It's a nicely detailed loco though.
A Couple of months ago Kleins had 20% off sale and I found another Bi-Centennial Unit I have always wanted. Waiting for my DT&I unit which should be coming shortly and I have a Grand Trunk one I am detailing and painting. Rick J
Found this CSX OLS Caboose in my local hobby shop. I have some modifications I have to do. Adding window glass, making correct end railings, removal of running boards and some other small things. Will post again when I am finished. Enjoy! JMS
Not Really The B&O, C&O and WM under the Chessie System had 24 Safety Cabooses with different color schemes and slogans on them. Herald King made the decals for the B&O bay window cabooses. Here is a site with pictures of the many cabooses in all their various colors. http://www.trainweb.org/chessiephotos/html/Safetycabs.html Rick J
Rick- While not fancy in paint schemes, the GN and UP had many safety slogans on their cabs, as did others. But I was just thinking of the Operation Lifesaver campaign specifically.
I think he is referring to the fact that this "one" caboose has two different paint schemes on the sides. The "safety" cabooses were the same paint on each side for each one. I did not realize it until I opened the box. Also, the chevrons on the ends are going down on one and up on the other. I did some research and found that this is a real caboose. Seems to hang around Ohio... Willard, Delaware, Marion areas. I have an old Athearn BB Safety Caboose. It is "On Display" at the station in Wilson. JMS
Yes, and also being specific OLS, rather than the "usual", (for lack of a better word), "safety" style railroad caboose.
I believe that CSX also has grey w/ blue & yellow striping OLS Cabooses. I know they had ones in that paint scheme with Operation Red Block logos(was a drug and alcohol awareness program). JMS
Bought a matching pair of Norfolk & Western 40' box cars last week, nice cars! Bought these vehicles a few weeks back, they all fit the 1968 time frame. Sent from my PantechP8010 using Tapatalk
Those do fit, quite well. At that time the turnover in vehicle eras was slower. There were a ton of those Ford cab-over trucks on the roads.
There ought to be one of those "This is a REA Bat Outta Hell Express Truck" trucks in there as well. They were just barly still around in 68. I remember seeing one in Oklahoma City around that time. Maybe even a year or two later.
I just received my Rapido New Haven FL9's yesterday, won't be able to run them until I get to the club on Saturday, but here are a couple of pictures: Rick J
