Wolfgang, I see a small country store with a pair of gas pumps in front and a service area for autos to one side, perhaps with a cover and a lift for raising the cars in your spot for the repair shop. A sign out front could be "Esso", "Gulf", Shell" or "Pure".
I agree on the lumber yard, but you could also have a log-loading area there as well. That first site is definitely a good spot for a fuel dealership, be it coal or fuel oil. Third site could be a general store with gas pumps out front. The pumps could be the old-style gravity-feed pumps, with a couple of Model A or Model T cars parked in front. And a spot on the side for vehicle repairs, either open-air or covered.
My Salina gets already a stock yard. I think a little town in 1930 in CO would not have a scrap yard. Therefore I've got the idea "lumber yard". Marc, do you have a imaginatio, a pic from a model or prototype scrap yard? I have already built a scrap yard form my Diamond Valley module. Terry, a country store sounds good. But the street frond of the garage site is only 4''. Any pictures? I think, the coal dealer would also have a tank for some fuel. Even in 1930. Wolfgang
Yes! Do a lumber yard! Are you thinking a place where lumber is sold retail or a wholesale distributor/warehouse arrangment. In the 1930s, lots of wholesale lumber yards would have straddle carriers (e.g., Gerlingers). You'd be loading lumber, usually, into boxcars, by guys who grab a bunch of sticks at a time and stack it in the car. I can help you with some general information if you decide to go this route.
They did exist, only back then were known as junk yards. Yes. They most certainly could have had a tank for kerosene, heating oil, diesel or gasoline. All dependent upon area economics. Boxcab E50
Being a remote area where farmers and ranchers will receive/ship supplies and equipment by rail, consider a team track platform with a small warehouse on one half of the platform side opposite the track, and an area for trucks to load/unload on the other half of the platform.
Wolfgang: On the site near the Church, you could have a one room school house. I agree with either the team track or the lumber yard. a little further along your "street" you could have a "Bull's Head Tavern" like they had in Wells, Nevada. A DPM kit would work well for this. Oakdale Elementary, Salina, Kansas - Disarranging Mine You could also have this type of industry, being built...
Thank you for the ideas. For now, I'm mostly looking for coal / oil dealer, garage and lumber yard. Any pics are welcome. The street will get some - perhaps temporary - houses. I will get an old kit set. Wolfgang
