I have the above scanner...lately it is giving me very poor resolution images...very grainy...and the colors are very subdued. Any suggestions? I have the preference setting on Quality and prescan at 600 DPI...still no luck.

    Thanks in advance

Have been daydreaming of the day I can afford a slide scanner. Have been looking at that manufacturer. I hope they are fairly trouble free? Have not seen a review on any of their products? Is there such a site?

Mike I have the same scanner and so does Bill Killion on this board. I had a problem for a while which I cured by the usual brute force method: Reload the software. So far it has not recurred and am having good results. I plan to use it later today after I pick up film from last week's fan trip. One thing I do consistently is load the scans into IRFanview, resize, adjust color and sharpen them. It makes a great improvement. :D
Ken, I don't know of a review site (try Google, it always works). When I bought mine, I got in touch with a (great) photographer friend of mine who had one and he sent me examples of stuff he scanned. As far as I was concerned, they were of great quality. For the price, it's a good deal. Some of these kids who won't buy anything that goes for less than a grand are blowing smoke, I think. I'm happy with the Primefilm. ;)

Mike, I scanned 17 photos on mine tonight, and noticed a decrease in clarity as I went along. After the 15th, it produced a rectangle of red dots on the pre scan. I shut down the software, recycled the power on the unit, and started it up again. Worked fine. I think it's just another one of the many incompetency things in our society today. As I have said before on here, if we produced THAT kind of software for our airplanes (I was in the business) there would be a lot of smoking holes off the end of runways. Needless to say I am not impressed with PC software, any of it. :(

I'm willing to bet, that somewhere in this land, well, more likely many places around the world, there are people writing software- Who would believe you can simply stop a plane, and reboot.... Duh. [IMG]

Hey Fitz, what is the IRFanview? The scan is done with the Cyberview software right? The scanner came with an Adobe program which I use to clean up the images etc...am I missing something?

Mike, IRFanview software was recommended by Charlie for resizing photos to post on the net. I can't remember how to access their site, but it's FREE, and it works really well. Try a Google search. I think most of the guys and gals who post photos here use it. I love the way it sharpens jpg files after you mess with them. [IMG]
Go take a look at the "Uff Da Minnesota Railfan Trip" thread I just started on Railfanning discussions, and all the photos were scanned from my K200 negs on the PrimeFilm scanner and "massaged" on IRFanview.

Well Fitz and gang...I tried your suggestions...downloaded IRfanview...reloaded the software etc..no changes...could it be the scanner ...just not enough "light" output? not sure if that is the answer...or is it something else?

Mike, if possible in today's world, I would try to contact their factory. It sounds as if you have a faulty unit. Software guys always pooh-pooh suspected hardware failures, but sometimes it IS the hardware. Dont' give up on it, it's a good unit. [IMG]

I agree with Fitz, Mike. Sounds like the unit has failed. Fitz and I both have the same unit and have had no problems with them (yet). [IMG]
