tasks done : - strip off original number - add new roadnumber (cab side, rear and numberboards) - add a lot of warning decals on both sides and the roof - paint the handrails - weather the unit - add decoder and mt couplers - assemble everything again - take pictures - make people jealous my current fleet of es44ac. some more are on the water... added a few warning decals on the left side of the unit... ...on the right side as well... ...and on the rooftop
the warning decals are way too small to be readable. but still, they have a white background, black outside line and some text : "custom improved by sschaer (C) 2011 sschaer" looks like a real warning decal...
it still makes me wonder WHY kato can not do the the warning labels on all there locos!!! Sandro that CP looks great!!!
Sandro, do you make your own decals or use Microscale's? When I renumbered and detailed a Kato CP GEVO, I found that the font style of GEVO numbers and letters was different from those available on standard CP diesel decal sheets. Also the little red and white stripe along the cab front door isn't available as a decal. I also had quite a time making the "ES44AC" symbol under the cab side number out of pieces from a CP decal sheet. Were you able to remove the Kato number but leave the little ES44AC symbol in situ? Your work does look awesome...
Sandro, What did you use to take the original numbers off? I assume it didn't mess with the underlying paint.
i used scalecoat washaway and a q-tip for removing the original numbers. if you work quick enough the paint will not be affected that much. yes, i do wash off roadnumber, engine type and class designation. then i print my own decals using microsoft word and an alps printer. cabnumber, engine type and class designation is one single decal. numberboards are home-printed as well and still fully functional. numbers are clearly visible if lighted. i point this out since a lot of custom painters use black background and white numbers thus preventing any light from shining thru. i print the numberboards different. thanks for your kind words ! oh, i do not do custom printing of decals. sorry.
Nice work Sandro! You have quite the fleet of CP AC4400's there! Oh, and your last point...You have made me jealous!
