Recently I received what I consider to be a treasure for THIS Frisco fan... :) Saw some number boards from SLSF 932 on e-bay a few weeks back and just had to steal them. This is cool because 1) I'm a Frisco freak, and 2) the SLSF SD45 is my favorite locomotive. So naturally having the number boards off my favorite locomotive is a thrill for me.

So here's my philosophical(? and way too cerebral :)) journey: While going thru the bidding process, I wanted to see whatever became of SLSF 932? After the merger it lost it's number boards and was stenciled as BN 6680. Then it was painted green and black. Distinct plow removed. L-Window replaced. Stored. Then it was sold to UP and numbered 4733, then it was rebuilt to SD40-2 specs and renumbered UP 2783, and finally sold off to CEFX where it continues to wear the 2783 badge and modified UP paint to this day. The most recent photo I was able to find was from July of this year.

As I looked at the photo, I asked myself, "is this really SLSF 932 anymore?" I mean, when does a locomotive cease to be what it was? Did 932 end when it was repainted green? When it was rebuilt to an SD40-2? When X percent of the body parts; doors, fans, grills, hatches, wheels, etc have been replaced thru years of abuse and hard work? Is this CEFX unit really SLSF 932? Well, at least parts of it are.

Anyway, I'm a proud owner now of SLSF 932's number boards and thought I'd share my joy. ;)

    Best Regards,

    -Mike

Now that IS an impressive score, Mike. Congrats! :)

And yes, it is 932. The numberboards say so! Mind, the image would look great with BN 6680 on the cab... ;)
