Great modeling people. I could say things about every single post. Awesome. The UP loco is beautiful Travis. Dave, I lived in Modesto for a couple of years in the early 80's, and I must say that bridge of yours is right on. I tried out a new product this week from Plano, replacement autorack panels, part #260. They are very nice. And as you can see below, the Ford plant is still crankin' out the F150s. Last evening I caught this engine on my way home from work. It was getting ready to head back west. Have a great week everyone.
Nice work everyone! I just finished my IM Tunnel Motor project that I started a few months ago!(Got tired of waiting for handrails) Heres how it ended up. Heres what it looked like!
Scott - Most excellent work on the tunnel motor! Couple of questions - did you run fiber optics to the front headlight and/or ditch lights, and if so, how hard was it? And did you just weather right over the windows, or did you cover them? Red Rock - lookin' good on the autoracks, and nice catch on the unpatched DRGW TM! There's only a handful of those left Dave
Dave, I used fiber optics for the nose light, But I just ran enough to stick through the shell. I'm going to add another LED on the front part of the frame to light it. I just taped over the glass before weathering This was all pretty easy, The hard part was getting the handrails back on.(Since I didn't do nice things to them when I took them off)
Well, after being fed up with the plastic look of the autos on my tri-level autoracks, I decided to make them more realistic by repainting them in more colors in hopes that they were also more prototypical. So I disassembled the racks, took each car off, removed the wheels, primer'd the tops and bottoms and repainted in a few colors. So here's my assembly line of sorts - in the new colors - The racks will also be repainted from brown (thank GOD I'm a freelancer) to BN green/yellow scheme similar to the following: Now I gotta re-wheel the fleet - oh joy - and then come the detailing... rims, head & tail lights, front grill, and ...well you get the idea WHOS IDEA WAS THIS ANYWAYS!!! Oh, right, nevermind
We've been working on the railroad. Here's a mockup of the East Harbor. It's all foam core and masonite for now but, in the next few weeks, we'll find a a way to cover those white walls. [ 23. August 2004, 03:12: Message edited by: Pete Nolan ]

Thanks William for comment on the Hutchinson house. That pipe didn't seem to be a drain. Used a bit of wire, probably too big. It must not have been much over an inch in diameter, ran between a metal elbow connection at the foundation up to a place in the wall 5 feet up or so. Either kitchen or water heater were there. I assumed it was some "after the fact" plumbing put in after house was built, not wanting to go into walls any more than necessary. Water? Gas? Hot water? This is one of those cases where I grabbed a picture or two and didn't measure or figure out anything, and then years later tried to model what was in the picture, whether I knew what it was or not.
Pete - pic is way large... can you reduce it (make it 75 or so dpi if possible) so I, and everyone else can see the whole thing? Looks fantastic everyone!!! Loco, please tell me the scoop in your Goo - ingredients, amounts, procedure, etc... [ 23. August 2004, 03:15: Message edited by: nscale_lover ]
Hey Pete, That pic is enormous! I don't mind, but I'll guess the folks on dial-up might... Great work, at any rate!
As for my submission, I went to visit the Moffat route again this weekend, and here's a short teaser, with many more here! Here's new twist on an older shot of mine, from a high perch on a ridge in the South Draw: The older shot: Here's the westbound JAZZ Train headed thru tunnels 12 thru 14 in the South Draw: And my favorite! A heavy BNSF DENSTO manifest struggles upt he rain-slick rails west of Crescent, with its intense headlights illuminating the interior of Tunnel 19 under fading light:
The sound coming from the tunnel was deafening, and the light was blinding, and the ground trembled... I think that was the shot of the day, and it was dimly-lit! Here's his 'donkey' (DPU pusher):
A field trip from L.A. to Dunsmuir, CA landed these picts. No trains through Dunsmuir due to a BNSF derailment on the north bound tracks and a fire in a south bound tunnel. But this turntable is still in operation by those pirates at UP This Shay was caught sleeping by a water tower in Dunsmuir,CA This one shows the beauty of the mountains along the Shasta Route! I wanted to get this picture before UP sprayed graffiti all over it!
excellent work once again and some great prototypical pictures. For me though I think travis' UP Desert storm loco is hard to beat. Excellent work Travis and thanks for posting the finished product
