I noticed a lot of very long trains at a complete stop today as I was driving along the Rt66 between Victorville and Barstow, CA.
I just don’t remember ever seeing anything like this before and then later in the day I had to wait maybe 15 min to get across a crossing and there was already a line of 15 or more car in line before I got there.

If a yard gets plugged, it can back up trains for quite some distance. Or, if it wasn't an m-o-w window, maybe something went on the ground?

I remember to many of these incedents where I was called out to perform a very difficult task.

If there was a car or pedestrian versus train you could see trains at stop for a couple of hours.

I hope that wasn't the case in this situation but it happens.

Is there a nearby newspaper, which might have a story if there was an accident or derailment?

I didn't see anything in the news, but I wonder if it had anything to do the ships being backed up. I saw a very long train full of empty Auto Rack Cars and 3 pretty long Intermodals all stopped. There were more in Barstow heading south, but I had to jump on the freeway at that point and couldn't see much of them. They were all heading south toward San Bernardino.

Could be. Although I heard they expected to be speeding things up and reducing backlog now that there was supposedly an agreement?

"Something happened..." Would be interesting to know specifically. M-O-W delay? An incident of some type?

I'm quite sure it's related to the Port of Los Angeles/Long Beach backup. I also heard of empty container car movements around City of Industry today so it might be some of those.

Wasn't there a strike in Port of Los Angeles these last few days?

The more I think about it the more I think it’s related to the Port of Los Angeles/Long Beach backup especially with all the empty Auto Rack Cars. I don't see that much and I can’t tell if the containers are empty, but I bet they are.

I might be driving there again today if I get the parts needed for a repair job I’m working on out that way and it will be interesting to see what’s going on today.

It was sort of a strike/slowdown. Supposedly resolved about ten days ago.

I wonder if we could spot that site in an aerial map/photo? See how near it is to railroad tracks?

It's above the tracks and right about now I'm not even sure it would have anything do to with the railroad.

Yep, John P., I finally got my computer back up and running after a near brush with death. I thought my console and computer were a goner. A virus and spyware attacked it as I was simultaneously attempting to download a PDF from David E., to my BarstowRick.com.

Phew, we are back up and running but it took me two days to run Recovery/Restore, numerous visits with the folks at Norton and finally reestablishing contact with Mozilla/Firefox. Once all that was done....here I am.:rolleyes::startled: But for how long?:(

Ken, Here is a map of the area and Cleghorn comes out just below the truck scales. A interesting dirt road to travel with a view as awesome as those seen at the summit. That is if you can get around the locked gate. Perverted greenies have it locked down tight.[IMG]

Downloading can be hazardous. :) Some of the blog software has big holes, where scum can try getting into the administrative side. You have to hope your host keeps current on their patches and upgrades. I do not have a blog, but the version offered by my web site host has or had a big gap. I see their log-in probes in my site visitor stats almost every day. Most seem to be tracing from Russia and the Ukraine.
