I'm using an Atlas VO-1000 frame under a N scale FM H-10-44 shell and using a LokSound 5 Nano DCC for sound. I was asked some questions about the speaker location and using the Nano vs. another LokSound decoder. I took the following pictures that might help in considering one's options with adding sound to a VO-1000. When I finish the install using the FM shell I'll put that up here also.

Here are a number of links that I've collected over time to VO-1000 decoder installs:

    All Nice installs....

I have a number of decoder installs and other decoder info on my site ( HERE ).

Thanks for the info. Wondering about the height of the speaker compared to the Nano. Since the Nano occupies less length, maybe a spkr can be fitted in tandem? Excludes how to allow sound pass thru the shell? Think one of the 3 videos person mounted spkr in cab and removed a couple of windows.

If you are suggesting on top of the frame above the motor I don't think that will work with the VO-1000. I looked. With the FM H-10-44 shell it is a possibility as it is a high hood with the hood going to the top of the cab. Not enough room for the speaker I showed (9 x 16 ) but looks like an 8 x 12 with a really short enclosure on it would work. Not a good deal though if you could put in the larger speaker and you want the largest enclosure you can fit. So for what I'm doing I wouldn't do it.

The VO-1000 has a lower hood so not enough room to put a speaker there.

You don't have to worry about the sound getting out. In my small amount of experience the speaker sounds better in the loco vs. out in the open. The internal speaker on the tester sounds better than the one I'm testing. The one I'm testing sounds better laying loose under the tester vs. outside of it. A couple I've tested don't sound good at all if they are loose where they can vibrate. Most you can't even hear if you don't have a sealed enclosure attached to them.

I didn't try an take the light conductor piece out of the VO-1000 that is in the way of a speaker in the cab. There might be a way to remove part of it but it wasn't obvious so not sure what they were talking about. If you are going to remove any of it I think you would remove all of it.

Do you think its possible in the fuel tank? Perhaps a small channel would need to be made on the frame side for wires? Looking at t

Maybe a micro LED to replace light conductor?

I think the ESU board you quoted has an LED on it so would work with the light conductor. The VO-1000's I did with a TCS decoder (non-sound) worked with the stock light conductor.

I use small LED's all the time in my decoder installs and will use that option with the FM shell on the Atlas frame and the 5 Nano DCC sound decoder and will use the cab area for the larger speaker. Not using the VO-1000 shell so more options.

Thanks for the info. Can't tell from on ESU product page whether LEDs are on board or not as it still appears to be a pre-production CADD image. Went to reference and found this.. Dimensionally, its nearly identical to the TCS.

Soundtraxx has the mini cube 3 and is the smallest spkr I can find but not recommended to be used individually due to its lower max audio power rating. Possibly though, the minimally destructive option to shell and/or chassis?

    Thanks again for insights...
