Does anyone have some steam experience, programming this CV, I can't seem to do the math correctly. I'm trying to follow the formula that Jeff gives in the manual but it's almost a wild a** guess about what number to put in.

Don't have the documentation in front of me, so if you could remind me what CV 54 is (I think it's for the chuff sound speed) then I can let you know how I adjusted it. I remember programming a bunch of CVs for the two Mikados we have, and they run (and sound) great!

Got the documentation here now. He says to put in CV54 the following formula:

115.9*(Spd/DIA)*Gear Ratio. Well, for standard locos, the Gear Ratio is 1, so ignore this. Now all you have to figure out is the unit's max speed divided by the diameter of the driver tires (in real inches, not scale).

For instance, I believe the Mikado (Athearn) has 63" drivers, and I used a max speed of 55 mph. So my result is 115.9*(55/63) = 101. Then put it on the layout and see how you like it and adjust up (faster chuff) or down (slower chuff) as you see fit.
