West End of Yard. The locomotive is in #5 track. The Switchman is Jerry Mason. Maurice Lewman collection.
And LEW was probably running the engine when he took this one. Thanks for posting it, Roger. :tb-biggrin:
Nice photo, Roger, and I really like your site http://madisonrails.railfan.net/ Loads of fascinating photos there. Thanks!
Where is Hank? I hope he is OK. I will be out of computer service from Monday through Sunday next week, June 20-26. Will you guys keep an eye on this forum and keep things under control? Really, not necessary as we have a very congenial group here and I thank you for all of the NY Central history and interesting discussions about "our" railroad. :tb-biggrin:
Here I am, though thank you for your concern. I was distressed to see the condition of the yard by 1965. The deferred maintenance is apparent, obviously caused by many factors, not the least of which were the overbearing Federal regulations which may have been necessary 60-70 years before, but had become a death-knell for the industry by 1965. I also will be kind of busy next week. When the head of our church's Vacation Bible School asked me to take the lead in the VBS play, I assumed she meant read/act the part of the Leader ... WRONG!!!! By "Lead", she meant be the Producer, Casting Director, Wardobe Mistress, Prop Acquirer, Stage Mgr., and, oh yeh, read/act the Lead part. Fortunately her daughter, a talented elementary school teacher, is handling the scenery....PHEW! Hey, even with all my griping, it's gonna be a Ball...:tb-cool:
