I caught this unit in Florence, S.C., leaving the interchange between the SCRF and CSX:

Is that a CF7. Looks so nice, hard to believe...

Didn't Railfan & Railroad magazine do an article on these guys? About 5-6 years ago?

    :D

I don't know about that, since I rarely read it.

Seven years too late, but the record must be set straight!

I seem to be seven years late on joining this discussion, but the record must be set straight. This is NOT a GP16. I don’t care what the railroad stenciled on the cab, they are wrong! It is an ATSF rebuild called the GP7U, while it looks similar to a CF7 it was rebuilt from a GP7 not an F7. The crew who stenciled the information might have been confused from the frame number which I think is similar to that of a GP7 rebuilt by SCL into a GP16. A pure GP16 didn’t have an angled cab, although CRR’s GP11 were called GP16’s by CSX. As far as I know this engine has not been rebuilt since it was retired from ATSF and is therefore a GP7U.
