Hi Everyone, Could someone please give me a SP 101 course on the time line for the different color schemes used on the SP railroad: i.e. bloody nose, tiger stripe, black widow, and a silver F-series diesel that I once saw in a magazine image. Thanks! Matt
On paper the era of Tiger-Stripe switchers, Daylight passenger locomotives and Black Widow freight locomotives ended in 1959. In reality it took a few years to get everything painted in Red & Grey. The three paint schemes were used from 1946 to 1959 Passenger locomotives were repainted fairly quickly but it took around 12 years to paint most of the rest. F7a 6432 and F7b 8104 were the last F units and both were in Black Widow paint when retired in 1972.
Fitz, That's not only the best color scheme, but the best railroad, the best kind of power (steam), and the best locomotive. :tb-wink::thumbs_up: Adam
