Thanks, Joe! Yes, those Milwaukee units are nice and the one that Fishplate (Steve) did is awesome and can be seen in the build thread... http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?147966-SP-MP15AC-Kitbash-Started Today, I installed clear acetate over the numbers in the numberboards on mine to represent glass and to reduce the rather excessive recess that was present...
OK. I can't stand it. How did you cut that acetate without getting white edges or fogging?? That's a great shot. I have to go torture some HO guys I know with that. Standoff ladders, grab drops, windshield wiper. That's wonderful.
Thanks Wolf and Rangust! Sorry for the slow reply. been away from the computer for a couple days. On the numberboard glass, I was careful to cut the acetate to just the right size so that they would press fit in place with a little pressure but without warping. I used a pretty thin clear acetate which probably helped with the "white edge" issue but there was a bit of one along the bottom edge (the top edge was a factory edge). The short edges I cut with downward pressure with a new blade rather than drawing the blade across. I think this helps reduce the white edge thing (I have also found that cutting decals with downward pressure rather than across creates a much smoother decal edge). I then applied a tiny droplet of Micro Krystal Klear in a couple corners using some .008" wire. The MKK wicked into the edges and off the glass surface. I was kind of amazing actually but I moved pretty quickly. I would imaging that the wicking action would begin to reduce rather quickly the longer it took me to apply it. I believe the MKK drawing into the edges also reduced the white edge along the bottom of the glass. I'm only assuming the glass is firmly set now - nothing has fallen out yet - but I'm not positive and I don't really want to fuss with it to test it.
