Taken Saturday morning...this SP unit still unpatched after the merger...a former SD45 now neutered to basically SD40-2 standards...? Both units once proud mainline warriors...relegated to local duty, sit behind a warehouse near North Las Vegas, NV [ August 15, 2005, 02:49 AM: Message edited by: NSCALEMIKE ]
This might be an SD40M-2, one of the Morrison-Knudsen rebuilds. SD40M-2s even have SDP45 car bodies. I am not sure how you tell them from the real thing except for the speed lettering. And maybe the builders plate. I think there were about 200 SD40M-2s in various 6 axle carbodies gathered from all over the USA. But, for photo purposes, they look great! Nice catch; don't know why it doesn't have a repaint on it, though. [edit] Just checked Richard Percy's website. 133 units delivered were SD40M-2; this is one of those. Good catch, Mike! Here in Denver BNSF has relegated SD40-2's to yard switchers. Can you imagine the day when they use Dash 9's for local duty and/or yard switchers?
Ouch! Still the idea of a "Dash 9" size loco painted up for yard work does give me some interesting ideas. hmmm One thing. I will _never_ use an SD45 for such a purpose.
UP was using this for local switching duty in Rosenberg. I guess because it didn't belong to them, it was OK.
Now, factually... 1. UP retired all their SD45s. 2. UP acquires SP 3. SP has SD45 types. 4. UP now has UP painted SD45s (or the SD45 appearance). In other words, the UP SD45 has reappeared. Is that correct?
Hey Flash...from another post...here is another neutered SD45 except repainted in UP colors.. http://www.trainboard.com/ultimatebb.php/ubb/get_topic/f/27/t/000564.html
