This is my first visit onboard and have been enjoying many of the posts, especially those that reminisce, such as the "Remembering Frisco" thread.

I am particularly interested in St. Louis.
My granddad was a telegrapher at the following stations/offices:
Chouteau and Windsor Springs, in St. Louis; and Globe on the Monett/Verona border, MO. Windsor Springs was in Kirkwood, near Geyer and Big Ben. My dad explained that was where the tracks use to switch, from single to double. My dad grew up around trains and has loved trains since he was a boy living in Shrewsbury Park. Just like one of the earlier posts, his backyard was adjacent to the tracks and the trains would roar by like thunder, one time demonlishing his sisters school books which he had mischievously placed there, on purpose of course. I am told he got quite a whipping!

I believe that the Chouteau station was still in existence in the 1950s, although Windsor Springs and Globe have both long since vanished. Globe closed in the 1940s when my granddad retired.

Any board members have information about any of these stations/offices, and/or St.Louis Frisco Line in general?

    William H. Keehne, telegrapher
    (1879-1966)
There is a photo of my granddad
in I believe the Chouteau station
    office in the early 1900s
on my family web site: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~zimzip/

    Thanks,
    Karen

zimzip, thanks for the excellent post. I don't have specific information on the stations but the museum might. Are you famaliar with the Frisco Museum?

Also, on your question about St. Louis, you realize that St. Louis was the headquarters of the Frisco I assume?

My Grandfather worked for the Frisco for many years in Southern Missouri. We'll help in any way we can. Also, I assume you have been to http://www.frisco.org

    Hello, E8,

Thank you for replying to my post
regarding St. Louis and the Frisco Line.
I have heard about the Frisco Museum
from the St. Louis genealogy mail list that I belong to. I visited their web site yesterday and learned that they are now the repository for over 20,000 personnel files. I will follow up on that next week. The site is great and offers interesting memorabilia...but then you already know all of that! I am interested in a couple of the video tapes they offer, and with my dad's birthday coming up in August, it could be a nice surprise for him [IMG]

A year or two ago when I looked for Frisco Line info on the Internet, I couldn't find any. I am delighted to learn that so much more is now available. In particular I am happy to find others who share this interest.

    Thanks, Charlie.

I'm surprised that you were unable to find anything a year ago. We have had the frisco.org site going a lot longer than that. There are a number of personal web sites relating to the Frisco as well.

Happy hunting and we'll be glad to help if we can. [IMG]
