Holy latches, Batman!! Really, that's pretty impressive James. Looking forward to an action picture or two.

This is a great thread. Did I say that already? ;)

Daryl, you're on! The last trip was very much unplanned as I had a bit of extra time on the last day of a meeting. It would be a blast to see your pike in person. :D

Thanks, the FEC trailers are Deluxe innovations (48') and S&R Models (45'). I do not live close to the tracks, I am west, but they are only about a 20 minute drive to Ft. Laud yard and I see the tracks in Hialeah everyday waiting on the metrorail where I often catch 202 north with trailers and wells full of EMP!

    James, excellent looking containers!

    my best,

James - thanks for the info. What a difference that makes! Those details really pop! I'm going to have to try that.

I have been trying a similar pen technique to color the rail clips on my ME concrete tie flex (off topic, I'm afraid), but alas it did not turn out well. Here is a shot of how it looked after the initial application, but prior to ballasting:

I used a fine brown "permanent" Sharpie in a quick pass over the top surface. It was a bit tedious, but I thought it added a nice little buzz to the track's appearance. Alas, when I went to glue the ballast down I pre-wet it with alcohol and :lightning:! No more brown rail clips.

Have you had any issues with the durability of your ink? Maybe I need to dullcote the track before ballasting...

I've been using a very similar fade recipe to yours. I have found flat/white to work better than flat/dust, but I've had to be careful with the white to avoid obvious spray artifacts. Your Pacer cans faded beautifully!

Now all you need is a wee bit o' rust on the corner posts and you'll be King of the Cans (actually, you already are):

I recommend a very minimal application of acrylic Burnt Umber straight from the tube, stippled or swiped on with a stiff nearly-dry brush. Then follow immediately with a blend of Bragdon's dark rust and weathered brown powders, applied with a Micro Brush. That's how I did these guys:

Please note, this is not intended as criticism, just a tip.

    Cheers, Gary

    P.S. Cliff - much better! ;)
