    Hi all,

Just to let you all know that I've started a small, interim layout that I plan to practice some modelling techniques on bwfore I get to work on my main layout project.

It's still going to be a proper layout just 6'x2' and is provisionally called "Westminster-on-Sea". The baseboard has already been started and is nearly finished and a provisional track plan is also done.

    They can be found at:-

Outstanding, the best way to learn techniques is to roll up your sleeves and get started.Of course if you belong to a club you can always try it on their layout,LOL.Be patient with yourself and go slow, this is a great hobby.

There's nothing wrong, and a lot of things right, with a "starter layout". Some folks get so much fun and enjoyment out of it that it becomes their "dream pike."

    Good luck, and enjoy!

well, you're a whole lot farther than I am on my layout :)

Just one observation though... There's no connection between the inner and outer loops. If it were me, I'd add some way to connect 'em..

    just my two cents :)

Yeah, that's the one thing I'm not happy with. Still trying to work out where to put it. The only possible place is in the straight section but that's where I plan on having a small station.

Just to let you all know that I've put a new track plan online for Westminster-on-Sea. I was told that my old track plan was "boring" by members of my site's forum by having an MPD rather than some goods facility so I made some changes. I've also done a "proof of concept" for the baseboard by laying some Settrack on the board roughly where I'll want the loops to go to see whether it'll fit and there's a photo of that online too.

All this can be found at:-

    http://www.shaunsmodelrailway.net/Westminster.htm

I've also corked the baseboard and photos of that cen be found at:-

Looking real good Shaun, just started a new layout myself, hardest thing for me was which track plan to settle on, since then building the layout has given me lots of enjoyment

Starting any new layout is exciting, aint it :D

The very best way to find out how to do something is just to do it and learn as you go ;)

As alan an others mentioned Shaun, rolling up your sleeves and digging in even on a small project is great fun and will easily tide you over till you figure out your small empire. :)
