Look what came past our house on saturday Apparently heading for Lincoln Christmas Market. [ September 28, 2005, 12:20 PM: Message edited by: Alan ]
Nope! My friend John, who lives just around the corner from our old house in Spalding was washing his car when he heard it and saw the steam plume passing through town. So he phoned me to warn me to keep a look out. So I stationed myself in the bedroom window with camera set on multiple exposures. The next door neighbours were informed what I was doing and immediately rushed up to their bedroom with a camera each! The next-but-one neighbour saw us and was told what we were waiting for, so he called his wife and son outside to watch. The train was quite long and full. Many people waved to the folks hanging out the windows [ September 28, 2005, 12:21 PM: Message edited by: Alan ]
Alan, you certainly picked a great new location in which to settle! Hope the Mrs. didn't have a wash out on the line.
That is a great shot. I had the thrill of seeing the UP steam engine that was at the Super Bowl sometime ago... I watched as it went past, and commented that I would love to be riding behind it. The guy next to me (a guy I knew) commented that he wished that he knew that. He had two tickets and declined to use them and would have gladly given them to me. Charlie
Would have been nice, but it was 3 pm passing here, so was obviously taking people to an evening visit to the market. Our line closes too early for a return late in the evening, so I expect it returned via Newark and the main line to Peterborough (depending on it's destination). Pity it was so dull when it passed, would have been better pics in the sunshine.
The train stopped at our village station for some reason, which meant that it was working hard, not going too fast, and still accellerating as it passed us. This is a shot of it bursting into view [ September 28, 2005, 12:22 PM: Message edited by: Alan ]
Charlie, I have no idea where it came from, or where it was going (if not to the Lincoln Xmas market). I will be trying to find out about it. Was talking to a neighbour today who saw it, and someone told him it will be in our local newspaper. Could glean some info. from that.
Talked on the phome with a friend from the Spalding model railway club (which is housed in Spalding station!) He says he will find out about the train from station staff at the weekend
We see some special trains past here now and then, but except for this one they are all diesel hauled. Some interesting stuff though
It looks like you need a photo stand about where that small shed is, in the upper left corner of the yard... would give you a great vantage point! (?)
Alan, have you considered a motion detector that is connected to pre-focused cameras (two, each pointing in opposite directions) that are on permanent standby? OK, how about staying alert at the back fence at all times of the day and night with one of the aforesaid cameras in your grip? Oh Well, I guess not... I say the foregoing with tongue firmly planted in cheek as my proximity to the CSX Mobile/New Orleans main line is equally as close as you are to your line, and my photo output has been far less than yours... I really appreciate your photo essays...thanks!
