A couple of significant things have happened over the weekend regarding western steam. Smokebox1 has reported on several other sites that the 4449 is being prepped for her "new " paint job, which I assume will be Daylight, but some are assuming AFT. Time will tell. The 4449 trip to Sacramento will not come to pass, but the engine will probably run to Bend on the two weekends, March 15-17 and 22-24.
The other significant steam op was in San Francisco over the weekend, at Hunters Point, where both SP 2472 and 2467 currently reside. Both Pacifics were steamed up and ran side by side and double-headed. Late in the day, a derailment curtailed the operation, but apparently a great time was had by all.
I'm trying to get permission to run a photo taken by someone else.
    :D ;) [IMG]

Which 'Bend' are you referring to Fitz .. the one on the coast, or the one inland by 'The Sisters'? I'd sure like to see it run again [IMG]

Sorry, Bill, in my haste I didn't make that very clear. That would be the Bend over by Sisters, and a trip east in the Columbia River Gorge, then south through Deschutes River Canyon, which is all beautiful. Looking at the miles, I'm guessing overnight in Bend then return. :D

Here is a photo of 2467 and 2472 steamed up at Hunters Point. Photo taken by Brian Bergtold and used with permission. Sure hope these guys do this again. Both of these great looking Pacifics are now residing at Hunters Point, San Francisco. :D :D

Guess I'm getting to be a "rivet counter". Note the different bolt pattern on the smokebox doors.

    Thanks Fitz [IMG]
What a nice photograph!!! I love it. I understand that excursion was cut short due to a derailing ... but all still had fun anyway.
    Thanks again.
