I recently found an old steam train that was used in a park in my home town. It has been in storage for several years and needs restoration. I have been searching for information on a business or person with the capabilities to restore a steam locomotive. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Bewel! Welcome to trainboard. I can steer you in the direction you need to go. Log onto www.nmra.org. Go to their worldwide sites and there you will find under prototypical, companies who repair and restore steam locomotives. I know of one, he is located in Minnesota. Be prepared! Repairing a steamer can run into hundreds of thousands of dollars. If we American's were more interested in keeping our heritage alive than in self interests ( y'all don't take that out of context ), then your repairs wouldn't be necessary! All steamers should be preserved to the point of actual running condition! To leave them sitting on a dead track for display purposes is totally UN-AMERICAN! Speak up WATASH! Best wishes! Randy

The Railway Museum in Monticello, Il. has a great bunch that work on Steamers for other museums beside their own. I think I remember The New Baden in Frenchlick, ID. is, or was, planning on sending one for their steamers Monticello's way. They also did the rebuild on a Nickle Plate "Mike" for a group near Indianapolis, IN.
