I'm running a 4% grade with 18" curves on my 4 x 8 layout. It's the only way to get over the top. I'm building a new layout with my 10 year old son and doing almost a 4% grade on 20" curves. We like the hills and having the trains struggle up and over. My "dream" layout will have 2.8% grades and no shorter than 24" curves so I can handle a Big Boy. I like to model mountainous scenes with the UP, Rio Grande, and the Santa Fe. Mark
Hi JCater The Shay was a kit from MDC which I hashed around and used North West Short line gears etc. The Climax body, I scratchbuilt it and put it on the MDC climax chassis after much cutting, and filing. Took me about a couple of weeks work to make the climax body.
I at one time had a 2% grade but I removed it ------------------ LONG LIVE THE CHESSIE SYSTEM!!! Maumee & Cuyahoga Rail System/Chessie System. Your Purr-fect Rail Trafic Solution!!! NARA member!!!
