I'd expect to see Dash 8's, Any EMD older than a GP38 and SD40-2 enter retirement, if not just sold or scrapped outright. This is a wild guess, but perhaps it's somwhat realistic.

I would expect most of the SD40 lease fleet to go back to lessor and those still on rosters to enter the stored servicable lines.

I had heard that ALL SD40's were going to storage and I haven't seen very many lately. CSX had a date set saying that there would be no lease units on the property.

UP is retiring C40-8s, but I haven't heard of CSX doing the same yet. I guess they have more older power remaining than UP.

BNSF, UP and CP have all sold off many of their SD40-2s, but I don't know of many around in Class 2/3 or lease service from the eastern roads. That'll probably change soon.

The Dash-8s being retired are ex-CNW units coming off of lease; apparently the unattractive lease terms, combined with the downturn in traffic and new power coming online (ACes and GEVOs) make them expendable, so they're being stored and prepped for return to the lessor. As far as other power being stored on the UP, I've seen and heard of units like SD40-2s/T-2s/M-2s, as well as newer power like SD60s and C40-8s being stored until traffic picks up. Switchers like SW1500s are also hitting the deadlines, with a large string of them at West Colton. A lot of this can vary by region too, depending upon the power assigned to the area.
