A friend of mine and I were discussing stryene backdrops this weekend. He's in the process of putting them up and has thought about stryene instead of hardboard. Anyone here have any long term ecperence with stryene? Be curious to know what you used for adhesive and how it's holding up. Thanks!
It depends on what you are attaching it to. Styrene is much more dimensionally stable than other materials such a wood. It does not expand and contract at the same rate as other things due to temperature and humidity. I have found over time that it can delaminate from whatever it is glued to as the glue ages. Many rubber based contact cements will dry out over time and become brittle. I would consider using mechanical fasteners that can be mounted flush and painted over to conceal them.
