The benchwork is almost finished for my Euro-scene, and I have started working on the lift-off mountaintop. On it will be a short loop of track, winding round the edge of the mountain with a siding for a mine or a quarry or something. But what? I've ordered the train (I can change the load in the cars), and have bid on a building... whatever it is. I won't have to use it, of course, if it won't work. But still, can anybody make a suggestion or two, or more, as to what to do for scenery? What buildings to use and where? The outer loop is pretty well fixed, but the siding can be altered. I'm thinking about using Marklin flex for it, without a raised roadbed, so with thin ballast it won't look like a mainline. The mountain will be fairly steep sided, with a bridged cut somewhere on the outer loop for interest. The wooden blocks are where the tunnel mouths will (probably) go, and the back of the mountain will be open, as it is in a corner against two walls. And I like trees.
This mountaintop will sit about 18" above the main layout, and can be as tall as it needs to be to visually fit the rest of the layout.
I've been thinking of using N scale mine buildings for the greater variety, and don't think size would be a problem, as they seem to be a bit small for their scale anyway.
    Any suggestions?
