    What does the driver see when approaching the switch from the faceing direction and the trailing direction

    Depending on the RR in question, the driver or "engineer" ( in USA) will see a red or green indicator sticking up from the switch stand. Red means the switch is lined for the spur or siding track & green means its lined for the main. The indicator moves when the switch is thrown. It doesn't matter whether it a facing or trailing point movement.
