That article reads like it was written by AI...

There are three mountain ranges in the North America, from youngest to oldest: Rocky Mountains, Appalachian mountains, and Ozark Mountains. Some people consider the Cascade/Sierra Nevada mountains as separate from the Rockies, rather than a single range with a broad valley down the middle.

I particularly take issue with the following distinction from the article:

Hills can be the result of geological forces pushing the land upward. Mountains are frequently shaped over time by the erosive action of glaciers, rivers, and wind, causing them to rise and take shape.

I would consider the opposite to be closer to the truth, particularly in North America. Except for plateaus/mesas, all mountains are created by geological upward thrusts in the crust (molten or solid), then worn down over time, lowering and rounding off the peaks, and carving valleys and canyons. Depending on the climate, the amount of rainfall, etc. these forces can act differently and at different rates. More regular rainfall encourages vegetation that often obscures the severity of the terrain. Less frequent, but often more rapid rainfall causes more dramatic canyons, and less vegetation to obscure them. A lot has to do with the hardness and toughness of the geologic layer that is being upthrust and subsequently eroded. Over time, the erosion effects create gravel and soil, that supports more vegetation, resulting in more tree-covered mountaintops.

While the discussion may be valid. I believe hills are more 'rounded' at the top where as 'mountains' have more of a 'peak' to them. Mine are more 'hills' JMO

We have a mountain/hill up here. It is called 'Porter Mountain'

    https://www.surgent.net/pix/p/porter1.jpg

Is it really a mountain or just a 'hill'. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Show Low's elevation is listed at 6330 feet. Porter Mountain is listed at 7582 feet. That makes it 1252 feet higher then the sourounding area. By definition it would be 252 feet higher then a 'hill'...o_O:whistle:

Here in Wisconsin we have the Kettle Moraine Forest Reserve. Formed by the second Ice Age glaciers. The Kettles were bored out by water falls off the glaciers. The Moraines (little mountains) were formed by debris dumped by the glaciers. There usually found grouped together.
Most don't know that southern Canada and northern USA had a mountain range bigger than the Rockies. Now it's the Great lakes and plains.
    History is fascinating. ;)

So that's why my life hasn't been to Happy. It's said that 20% of wife's ditched husband when they returned from combat (VietNam). She took 2 year old daughter with her and I never got permanently reconnected to any. Oh well that left more time for motorcycles, snowmobiles and now trains.

    Aiiyiiyii !!!

Mountains, Mole Hills, Valleys, Washes, Dry Beds? Do we really now how any of them were created? Everything I read is just a Thesis. A Idea, someone's imagination working overtime.
Did I say that? Yep,I did.

Well, somebody found their box of Fruit Loops empty this morning... Or was the carton of milk a little too far past its use-by date?!

We could debate what likely caused Rick's outburst instead! ;)

It's okay, we're all entitled to blow off a little steam now and again. (See how I brought this back around to MRR?!)

Glad you got that off your chest, Rick!

LOL, poor Rick. Mountains, hills, valley's it all good. Just remember, it's not the valley's in life that we dread as much as the dips.........

Dips in the track aren't good either most of the time. :D

LOL, probably was written by AI. What a joke. There are way more than three mountain ranges in "the North America." The Sierra Nevadas, the Cascades and the Rockies are all distinctly separate mountain ranges with unique rock compositions and orogenies.

And I don't even consider the Appalachians and Ozarks to be real mountains. I got mountains in my city that are taller than the Appalachians. There are no real mountains east of the Rockies...:D

Well well well, that is a nice looking load Mr. Sir. (y)(y)(y) Can we ask what materials you used and how you attached the tie downs?

    Richard...

The 'pipes' where just some thick walled plastic straws we had in the 'catch all' drawer in the kitchen. This was just a proof of concept type load.

The tie downs are just black thread. I pushed it down through the hole of the stake pockets. I used a needle to put the tiniest dab of super glue on the upper part of the thread just above the pocket. I slowly pulled the thread into the pocket. After the glue set I did the same to the other side. I had to pull the thread tight and up over the load at an angle. I had to pinch the thread on top of the load...with my thumb under the car....until the glue set on that side. I then trimmed the excess thread off below all the pockets with a fresh #11 Exacto blade. :D

I am toying with making something that looks somewhat like the old school lever binders...or 'boomers' as we called them...back when I was trucking.

    https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/7EQAAOSwIihgBzK9/s-l1600.jpg

They would be so small I don't think anyone would scrutinize them to much. I plan to paint them red..as they usually are. I also have some silver/gray thread that looks more like chain. I am going to use that on the next project.

I may be over thinking it...but I am a truck driver by trade !! :D:D:D(y)(y)

I like it sir. I was thinking of doing the attach to car tie downs that way as well. Thanks for testing it :) The boomers would look good added on as well.
