A tape question......for those of you who tape the track in an area where you are doing landscaping does the tape leave any residue on the rails that is hard to remove? I often see what looks like painter's blue tape being used and wondered about the residue from it if any? Thanks, Sumner
I've never had painter's tape leave any residue on tracks or anything else (woodwork, etc.), unless maybe the tape was left there for months or more... It's designed to come off easily without damaging underlying paint, including without leaving a residue.
Wait until you buy an 'off brand' of Blue Tape. Found out that you have less than an hour before the stuff starts leaving 'spots' on the covered stuff. Found that out the hard way when painting two-tone walls. Woops, not train related but still. Later
It also depends on how long it's left on. If you complete the project in a couple weeks, no problem. If you tape the track and 6 months later complete the project, maybe. Depends on the tape.
The old type off white in color masking tape would gunk up a bit if left on for even a day. Painters tape seems to work great. I haven't left painters tape on for extended periods so cannot comment on the effects of time. I simply don't leave the tape on for long to avoid a possible issue. My efforts are in my garage so I fear how heat may affect things.
Unfortunately I have gotten distracted and left inexpensive tape on for month. Even the tape wasn't removable. Use only the best you can find
I agree with the comments concerning what happens when you leave it in place too long. And also with the observations about cheapo versions...
