Hey guy's, I need some help here! I have been trying to find photo's of the Milw. station in Tunnel City Wis. in the 1950's, also the C& NW station same location. The Milwaukee Railroader mag. did an article awhile back but the pictures were taken after the buildings were turned into something else. One a house and the other a garage. I even went to Tunnel City to look, the house is still there but the garage is gone and there is no historical site in town or a library. Anyone else have any ideas seeing that I will scratchbuilding the two stations.
Dan, I didn't think of them!! I belong to the Milwmodelers group but forgot about the other group, will give them a try. Thanks
Andy- Your very best bet- Contact John Dornfeld, at Depots By John. (Has a web site by that name.) Or try Ted Schnepf at Rails Unlimited. Boxcab E50
Thanks Ken, I will try them also! I figure if I can't find anything better than what I got I will use these pic's and no one will be able to tell me that they didn't look like I make them!
Ken, I was put in touch with a guy that used to work for Milw. in Tomah. (can't recall his name right now) He lives in Tunnel City, will be in touch with him right after the holidays. Sorry I didn't get back to tell ya!!
There used to be a guy up there, who worked on the m-o-w/track gangs. Equipment operator. He was from Tomah. After retiring, he sold Milw souvenirs. Wonder if he's still around? Or if this is him? Cannot recall his name. Boxcab E50
Argh! Been trying to think of his name! Should I be tearing out my hair? Did you ever catch up with John D? Boxcab E50
I'm thinking, not too long ago in the Milwaukee Railroader Magazine, they had an article about that area. Maybe a year or to ago?
Kurt, I have the issue, they don't really show much of the stations. They show the C&NW station turned into a house. One small picture of the Milw. station, not enough back ground. The rest of the article is great, track diagram, tunnel portales and pictures of the mountain from both sides. Ken, John from depots by John got back to me. He has five slides for sale of both stations from the right time period. I plan on getting them, then I only have to find a slide projector. He also said the C&NW station was there standard #2 and is offered in kit form from the historical sociaty, plan on ordering one of them too. Thanks for all your help guy's, I will try to post pictures of my advancment. I should have pictures of the Portage yard coming, it is almost done, just have two small areas left to scenic. My daughter is bringing the digital cam over Sunday to get some pics.
Andy...I saw a link the other day to a list of old rail depots..if I find it again, I'll let you know..or can you tell me where it is?..LoL
Well I got an e-mail from Depots by John today, and he is not only sending me the slides of Tunnel City I ordered, he is also sending me the plans for the stations. Wow this is going to be great!!!!
Andy- That's great news. But not a surprise to me. John is an easy going guy. Always has been really helpful to me. Very generous. He has some neat Milw goodies on his web site in HO. Maybe helpful for your modeling? Boxcab E50
Ken, I got the slides today, exactly what I needed and the plans are to follow. I will let you know when I get them. I checked out Johns site and will definitly be ording a few more goodies from him! Since I don,t have a slide projector my daughter say's she can get me pictures made off the slides for me, this will be better to work with and when the plans come I just have to add lumber. This will all be in the Tunnel City post when I start, hopefully right after the first of the year.
