A friend emailed me this picture of the Tehachapi area, as it looks this week. Is this true? I can't help but wonder if an enthusiastic someone touched up a picture to increase the dramatic effect - it almost looks to good to be true! Anybody been in the area in the last week or two? According to the report, this splash of color is causing some motorists to slow down in the pass because they're not used to seeing such color in the normally bare area... (Disclaimer: This is not my picture and I don't know who to credit for it. It appears to be an amateur picture, disseminated just for its uniqueness.)
William ... even Death Valley is in bloom this spring due to all the rain last season. Beautiful, isn't it?!
No kidding! All we hope now, of course is that the Santa Anas in October don't ignite all of it again!!
What a great picture. Those colors are unreal, almost as if they were a creation of Stephen Spielberg. When I first saw it, I assumed someone had been fooling around with PhotoShop.
William, I was emailed that very same picture. Not sure if its authentic or not. Folks around here are already pulling out the mowers.
Having recently (during last 2 months) taken very similar pictures in the SoCal area - Anza-Borrego State Park, California Poppy Reserve in Lancaster, hillsides near Gorman, I would tend to say the true colors of these flowers, albeit gorgeous, are much more muted than what is shown here. And with THAT comment, I also have taken a few of my wildflower pictures and turned up the color saturation and gotten results like that Hmmmm, might need a trip up to Tehachapi this weekend Mike
Mikel, welcome to the TrainBoard. Those some nice shots. The fourth one has similar color saturation to the one that opened this topic. So maybe it too was "helped" just a little. Your second photo reminds me of the two years I lived in Tucson 60 years ago.
history repeats itself came across this thread searching for tips for my next tehachapi trip (hopefully in november) 2 years later the santa anas are to blame for the huge fires in southern cali. anybody know if cowie bets on the superbowl?? LOL
October fires in SoCal are, unfortunately, a pretty safe bet. One year we had to water down our roof in Irvine, because the fires came that close. Of course, the Irvine Company took the ultimate measure to fire-proof the houses - BUILD MORE!!! I haven't had the opportunity to check the webcam in Cajon Pass yet, but it looks like this may have been an unlucky year for the pass...
