I believe the 500's referred by the Amtrak manager were the old SDP40-Fs which are long gone. http://www.hebners.net/amtrak/amtSDP.html The 500 I referred to is the P32-8 modified to burn 20% Bio-Diesel and 80% regular diesel. http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/BlobS...217348415&blobheader=application/pdf&blobhead
Thanks for the links to that information Hank. Interesting stuff about the bio-diesel and all. I uploaded a few more photos to my album. Here is Amtrak pulling into Houston. Here they are pushing back over the "Jump Frog" on the private car lead. UP could not provide a locomotive to hook us up to the end of the Sunset Limited so Amtrak had to back up the entire train onto the private car track to couple on.
UP put up a new sign next to the switch labeling it a "jump frog". Here is a photo from an earlier discussion about this unusual device. Amtrak backed a bunch of their Superliners over it (diverging to the left in this view) and then pulled out with no ill effect. The folks on the train probably did not feel a thing. It just seems so weird to me. Here is the sign.
