Yeah, and I practically tore an axle out getting there. I did get the shot, and that's what counts! Never walk where you can drive, I always say! :p

As for the static grass applicator, please detail how you build it, as I need one too, and $400 bucks is too rich for the one in the Walther's catalog.

Spring break is over, I've got a new camera and with a new box of scenery supplies, layout construction is underway again!

One year ago today I started this thread, and posted this shot of what my layout looked like then:

Things look much different now. Over the last year I have switched the season I model to from Summer to Autumn to Winter back to summer again and changed the trackplan numerous times, ripped out large parts of completed scenery and the whole layout has been moved three times to finally reside in the basement.

In fact, the only part of the layout that is the same as it was a year ago is the small rock cut near the tunnel.:D

Here is what the layout looks today.

Most recently, I added an old stone wall along the dirt farm road. The stones still have to be weathered somewhat before the wall is complete.

Also, I was interviewed for the Spring issue of the the online magazine "Musings of a Railfan". Please check it out if you like.:)

Caleb, I vote that this thread becomes a sticky just so that everyone can see such phenomenal scenery work without having to search for it.

I think it pops up often enough as is, but thanks Tony, glad you enjoy the thread.

Here's another shot. A westbound curving into Little Rock Tunnel.

Wow, one year ago today, you had a portion of scenery that made even the most experienced scenic experts look bad....

...And today, you have the complete opposite portion of the layout side complete, meaning you had the guts to go back and rip up the absolute gorgeous work from one year ago?!

Ok, you're not fooling me anymore. What planet are you from? :p

Man, you've got a super-human talent for scenery!

Inspiring progress, Caleb. Your layout looks amazingly realistic.

And a very good article. Nice to see your work highlighted!

    Nice article Caleb.

Those pictures in it look absolutely fantastic!!

Off topic question- What instrument do you play and are you as good at that as you are modeling?

I meant to say I especially liked the photo in the article that was looking down the hill over the tunnel portal. Very, very realistic. Could you post it here, if you haven't already?

    Thanks for the complements guys.

Haha, I guess I just get bored with what I've completed. I wouldn't be too surprised if what you see now is gone someday, though I do like the way it's taking shape this time.

Guitar and a little Mandolin. I'm good enough to play in my Dads bands now and then, but I'm not really the one to judge.:tb-confused:

I will, right now my internet is a bit too clogged up to upload photos (Dial-up with 3 people on it is a pain!) but I'll post it next chance I get. Glad you like it!

I made a little progress today. I lengthened the cut leading up to the tunnel portal to more closely resemble the real Little Rock tunnel.

The new bit is the Grey talus and boulders. As soon as I get some more brown paint I'll blend the brownish rock of the portal and the new Grey talus together some.

I still need to add crossbucks and other details to this scene... all in good time.

Very nicely done! This is the kind of scenery I like to see on layouts. Everything goes together very well, and I'm almost convinced I'm looking at a pictue of the real thing.

Keep setting the bar high- it gives this junior geezer something to shoot for :D :D
